Guess what, Microsoft are releasing this August?

Yes! Another damn X360 console LOL.

---------------------
Microsoft Xbox 360 - JASPER

Microsoft Corp. reportedly plans to release a new version its Xbox 360 video game system code-named Jasper in August and has already assigned IBM and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to make chips for the new game console. However, there are other important rumours: TSMC got orders to produce the chip for code-named Valhalla Xbox 360 design, which is rumoured to combine microprocessor and graphics chip in a single piece of silicon.

The code-named Jasper design of the Xbox 360 game console will use ATI Xenos graphics and memory controller hub (GMCH) made using 65nm process at TSMC as well as IBM Xenon central processing unit (CPU) produced at IBMs 65nm nodes. The new system design is projected to consume less electricity, use less complex cooling systems and also produce less noise.
---------------------

When will MS stop messing their consumers around by bringing out slightly better tweaked versioned consoles, which are becoming more PS3 like.

If it were me, id throw in the towel and just release a new Xbox console altogether.

Seriously, how many 360's must we see before the X720 comes to, or whatever it will be called.

what does it matter? How are they messing customers around? For most consumers they wont even know that the console has changed. Look back at previous consoles.. the bulky PS2 for example has many different versions since it was originally launched.
#2
yeah congrats on making your own thread instead of hijacking mine.

btw look here for new (not old) gears of war 2 videos.

Yes but microsoft are launching this new xbox with a built in blu ray

so what about all these people(including me)
who cant play these games when they come out on blu ray?
#4
I must admit that they do themselves no favours with all these tweaks/name changes.

I know consoles quite well, but I have no idea what the difference between Premium/Elite and the previous incarnations are.

Sony had the good sense to release one console, and then discontinue it when they released another.
banned#5
lol so they have released more power efficient versions of the xbox a few times now

LOL. Dont believe everything you read. Find me a solid link that says thats true.

Even if they do release one with built in blu-ray it wont be for games
#8
it doesnt realy matter as long as the previous 360's can play the same media if not then they should make it a 720 or whatever!!

"The PS2 has undergone many revisions, some only of internal construction and others involving substantial external changes. These are colloquially known among PS2 hardware hackers as V0, V1, V2, etc., up to V15b[15] (as of 2008)."

Microsoft have strongly denied that they will have blu-ray since those links were written, rumours about it keep surfacing and have done since HD-DVD went under and everytime microsoft say that they see the future in digital downloads rather than physical discs and so they will not release a blu ray drive. Only time will tell if they stay true to that but as of now they deny that its going to happen

Many different hardware revisions were also done to the original PS1, the serial port was removed in one of them, the major shape change being another, it happens all the time with consoles, see below for the different incarnations of the PS2

Although there have been many console revisions in the past from Sony (PS2), i think you're all forgetting how long the the 360 has been around?

To see this many revisions, this soon is silly and unneccessary.

lol no it isn't the ps3 has had countless revisions with regards to its hard drive and drive and it's emulator etc now it's a watered down version from the original release.

its perfectly normal for many console revisions to be released as new technologies allow them to be made cheaper and more efficient
#17
why are the fanboys getting so upset? thers another xbox comming out, more choice for the consumers on what they want, more options, different prices ranges for people budgets.

haha they mad!

I'm putting off buying a 360 because of this rumour, want the elite so don't know if this one is just going to be another core+ or something then I won't wait, and going by the prices of HD in America HD hasn't given up the fight yet.
#19
I highly doubt it will be 'another xbox', it'll more then likely be released with the Pro/Premium consoles, so you won't be able to tell the difference.

I am not realy talking about slight changes, I am more referring to the the PS2, and the difference that " Joe Public" would notice.

I do not know about the different revisions, but for the average user like me, there is no difference that I know about in the Phat PS2's.

I am always the 1st person most of my friends ask when looking for gaming stuff. When it comes to XBOX 360, I have to tell them that they have to tell me what EXACTLY they require, as I don't know about additional hard drives, HD DVD drives, wireless connectors, HDMI ports, whether they should have a certain part built into their console etc, etc.

It's called progress, how can you slate a company for trying to improve their product, which happens to be getting cheaper all the time!

I don't think anyone's slating the company. I don't have either a XBOX or a PS3, but what puts me off the 360 is that you have to make a choice as to what to get. This IS a good thing, but leads to confusion.

Changing the system, and what it has with it/what it can do, leads the consumer to believe that they got it wrong in the 1st place, and so will continue to wait for the next model.

The only thing that's different between the 360 and many other consoles is that their hardware changes are being publicised. But all these changes are for the better.

Also why do people think that the new version will come with bluray built in. That would be the thing that would annoy many customers.
#26
All the consoles go through a redesign internally to make them cheaper and more efficient to make think PS2 then PS2 Slim. They start to shrink things down whilst at the same time saving money. Sounds like good business practise to me.

I don't think you understand what I am trying to say is this.

If I were to go into town and buy a 360 with no knowledge of them(Which I don't), then I would be face with a choice of 3 packages to buy, which I believe are the Core, Premium and Elite.

If I were to go into town and buy a PS3, I would have no choice to make as they are exactly the same.

But the changes outlined by the OP are changes that most people wont notice.. they are changing the chips... to ones that wont take up as much electricity = less heat = quieter fans. But in terms of buying different consoles most people wont be bothered.

I doubt it will be marketed as a seperate package, all of the packages will take on this new chip system

Im a ps3 owner/fanboy so im not defending the system ;) just pointing out that the change doesnt really mean jack to people going out to buy a console, the ps3 internals have changes loads since the launch consoles the only difference is that most people dont realise

I wasnt saying anything about that (thats just customer confusion and lack of knowledge). But I know what you mean. Also the PS3 did have 2 versions in the beginning (in the UK), but BOTH have now been discontinued in favor of a model cheaper for them to produce.

I thought the original launch only had the 60GB.

IN the US they had 60GB and 20gb

I'd wager that they're working on the next Xbox.

I would guess they have been working on that since the 360s launch, or even before.

Considering the origianl xbox lasted something like 3 or 4 years i wouldnt be suprised if they decided to launch their new console soon, lol

A few points....

If I were to go into town and buy a 360 with no knowledge of them(Which I don't), then I would be face with a choice of 3 packages to buy, which I believe are the Core, Premium and Elite.

A well trodden arguement in gaming forums, but I think the success of the varying price points outweighs the occasional confusion at first glance. (And to be honest, any shop bod should be able to explain in less than 5 mins the different price points and packages available.)

In my personal experience, when I bought my original 360, I couldnt afford and wasnt ready to jump in with a new HD tv etc etc, so I just got a preowned core and a few games for less than two hundred. If my only choice was a 400 ish all singing all dancing PS3, good as it is, I would have give it a miss. My point being, in my case the extra choice made me get a 360. Since then I have upgraded to an elite and a full HD set up, and spent more on games than the missus can ever find out!! ;-)

Considering the origianl xbox lasted something like 3 or 4 years i wouldnt be suprised if they decided to launch their new console soon, lol

Rumoured that both Sony and MS initial scheduling is 2012 for the next gen. Whether that will hasten following the early demise of HD dvd, or the poor European attach rate (number of games sold per console) of the PS3 who knows. Incidentally, Sonys first claims were that their next console would be the first media less console, but I think that may have fell by the way side, especially following their efforts to make this console media based.

And yeah, anyways, back to the original point, sorry i bore myself sometimes! lol, but yeah, I'm all for hardware changes, I think the changes will be un noticable for the most part, and we wont see another price point or package available until maybe xmas, then they may put something out just to fire up some more interest.

Which iPod should I buy?
#35
There are to many game consles out there and alot of them are the same plat form, they all work genrally the same with a small added detail to it and charge like £100 more, those obsessed with getting all the up to date new technology will be dieing to buy it, when they already have one exactally the same
#36
There is no internal blu-ray drive coming out for the 360, If anythign it would be a External drive like the HDDVD drive addon. If they did bring out a future xbox with a blu-ray internal drive, it would possibly mean that we would have to install games on the hard drive like the PS3,which pretty much sucks if you have a 20gb PS3, as most games takes a 4gb install.

The jasper console is just the same as the console which is out now, just with a different chip set, just like how the rumor that sony is changing the blu-ray drive in the PS3s,its going to look the same and anyone will hardly notice.

As for the new xbox rumor is that it will be released in 2010/2011, and you transfer over your gamertag and gamerscore.I read somewhere last year that the console was developed enough for game companys to start making release games

Wtf is with the moaners on this???? If MS see an opportunity to make the console run better then why are people slating them? people whinge that the 360's fail so much, so they do something about it, and people whinge about that!!!

They likely had this idea all along, it wouldent be so bad if they relesed it with like a lot of changes, but this is one SMALL change and over charging for it, it called scaming for money and people who want all the new fanlge technology will fall for it and buy it
