Hi,

I am currently on NTL BB & telephone and have just cancelled my account and will be disconnected on the 4th August. I cancelled as my BB was disconnected at least 3 times a day requiring a hard reset on my modem. I used to ring them probably at least once a week for over a year now but now it's 25p a minute plus 10p connection for BB support, I've decided to switch to Tiscali.

I do have a disconnected BT line in my house so was wondering if anyone can give me guidance on how to get on to Tiscali via this disconnected line and if there are any pitfalls I need to watch out for.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

I went the other way, from Tiscali to NTL. I had loads of disconnection problems with Tiscali but......
Anyway, I think you will need to contact BT and get your line re-activated, then get Tiscali on the case, unless you already have done that, then I think everything should be done automatically.

Thanks. So you never get disconnected with NTL? I think it's my modem but they have always refused to send me a new one or arrange a site visit as it always worked when I did a hard reset on the modem. They were useless and I must have wasted about 50 hours of my life on hold over the year!

I was wondering if BT would re-connect me then just let me move BB & Phone to tiscali.

I have to 're-boot' the poxy NTL modem about 4 times a week. Only takes a few minutes and I don't mind a little inconvenience for what I'm getting.
I have been looking at getting a new modem, but at the moment I'll leave it. Have you considered a new Cable Modem? I'm surprised NTL are just letting you go without a 'fight'.
I don't think you will have any problems with getting BT back, they will be getting your money one way or another.

Sounds pretty similar to my problem. NTL retentions told me they can no longer speak directly with BB support so if I want a new modem then I have to speak with them myself at 25p per minute! I refused so the disconnection is in place. Mind you, they may well ring me in a week or so to try and persuade me to stay.

I had an absolute nightmare with Tiscali. If i were you I wouldnt touch them with a barge pole.

My housemate moved out, and the Tiscali BB was in his name, so needed to get it transferred to my name. This meant disconnecting the BB, BT disconnecting our line, and re-signing up with my name, and then re-connecting Tiscali.

Everything was done apart from the re-connection. This was supposed to take no more than 2 weeks, but 2 weeks came and went. for the next 11 weeks (yes, 11 weeks!!) i rang everyday to find out what is happening. After waiting on average 20 mins in a queue each time, i got through to a call centre in Bangalore to someone who could barely speak English. Each time they said specialist engineers would be sent out to fix the problem. On many occasions I was promised a phone call to give me a progress update within 3 days. Obviously, this never ever happened.

Eventually, I made calls to every Tiscali department I could find that were based in the UK. Eventually I spoke to a girl in accounts or billing etc. She couldnt help with the technical issues but advised me that the best course of action was prob just to cancel my account with them, as she knew of loads of people who had the same problems.

All in all, I would stay well away from Tiscali.

Just to add my 2-pence' worth, I gave up on NTL a few years back, phoned them to cancel & had an argument with some woman in India who refused to believe that I wanted to cancel! I had to fight to get the address out of her that I needed to write to to cancel my contract. I'll never use NTL again - VERY poor service, VERY poor customer service.

My parents use Tiscali - I'm not sure if the problems they have are caused by Tiscali or my Dad's inability to get his head round anything that has an on/off switch on it:giggle:

After trying a few different providers I decided to stick with BT - more expensive but I get an excellent service, & on the odd occasion where I've had a problem they've sorted it out pronto:thumbsup:

Out of the frying pan into the fire springs to mind, Tiscali have an appalling reputation so although leaving Virgin (NTL) might be a good idea I would have a serious rethink about Tiscali.

LOL, Virgin Media won't let me cancel, as according to them I am on a "New Contract" & have monies outstanding. I have a letter in front of me from VM Complaints Dept. in Swansea dated 8th May regarding there blatent overcharging policy, stating that they will get back to me in 5 working day's. but as they are busier than usual it might take up to 10 working day's! You guessed correctly, no reply, just threats of legal action. I will not waste anymore time or money on this joke of a company & will in future revert back to using Royal Mail to communicate. Ahh just remembered the strike last Friday! Perhaps pigeons are my only answer! :x I wish you luck!
