For anyone who is still struggling with getting XP onto the Mini 9 or how to re-install Ubuntu, I've written a 'How to'. Hopefully be of use to some people who are struggling with this. It should be exactly the same for installing from a USB stick except you need to figure out how to get the mini9 to see your USB stick. I used an internal DVD drive fitted with a IDE-USB convertor cable and it was powered from a spare connector on my desktop machine.

Install Windows XP on a Dell Mini9

Connect up your external cd/dvd drive to one of the USB ports.
Switch on the Mini 9.
Press '0' to select boot options.
Insert your Genuine Windows XP disk into your cd/dvd drive.
Select cd/dvd drive from the boot option list and press enter.
Press enter when asked to confirm "boot from CD"
When a list of partitions is shown (there should be 2 partitions), select

C:Partition2 (Unknown) and press 'd' to delete the partition.
Press 'enter' to confirm the deletion and press 'l' to confirm that you confirm

it has to be deleted!
Select the 'Unpartitioned space' and press 'c' to create the new partition.

Press 'enter' to confirm creastion of the partition.
Select partition 'C:' and press 'enter' to install to this partition.
Select 'format the partition using teh NTFS file system' and press 'enter'.
The drive will now be formatted and windows XP installed as per normal.

Re-Install Ubuntu from Windows XP

Connect up your external cd/dvd drive to one of the USB ports.
Switch on the Mini 9.
Press '0' to select boot options.
Insert your Dell supplied Ubuntu disk into your cd/dvd drive.
Select cd/dvd drive from the boot option list and press enter.
Press 'enter' to confirm you wish to install Ubuntu.
Press 'enter' to proceed (It actually asks you to type 'proceed' but it's

already typed for you so you just need to press 'enter').
Ubuntu will now be re-installed.
