Ok, we heard Hannah's awful story about someone attacking her 70 year old mother and her car, this isn't on the same scale but also focuses on the scum of society.

So my sister, who's 20, gets the train to work every day. She was telling me (and I won't go into the detail she described, I was almost sick) was spitting on the train station, I guess "in the worst way possible". She's seen him do it before, and this time went over to him and told him something to the effect of "You should stop doing that, it's not very hygenic." - politely.

The guy then erupted at her, shouting "look at you, just look at you", etc, etc, in a pathetic attempt to divert the conversation to her and make her feel small with pathetic, below-the-belt insults. Apparently this went on for some time.

My sister, 20, and this piece of filth apparently in his 50s (maybe 30s or 40s, I may be wrong!). How does someone like this manage to last that long?

It's a quiet local station so not many people around. She got on the train and got on with her day.

I've told her to report him to station staff for starters. What else can be done? He's apparently quite regular at the train station and is travelling into London.

My sister was very cool about the whole thing from what I can gather, didn't lose her cool and trolled him in a collected manor.

I'd like to begin a campaign against the guy, which would with any luck lead to him jumping on the tracks. Unfortunately we live on opposite sides of the county so getting the opportunity to meet him face to face wouldn't be easy.

"I'd like to begin a campaign against the guy, which would with any luck lead to him jumping on the tracks."

What a completely stupid thing to say.

And I'd like to commend my sister for standing up and doing something - as I know she reads these boards. When we're constantly hearing about good people being targets of pieces of trash like this after they confront them, she did well.

Cheaper to post it here than call you, you know I'm a cheapskate.

You're right, she did do well but don't blow it with comments like 'I'd like to begin a campaign against the guy, which would with any luck lead to him jumping on the tracks.'

Surely all that we want out of this is for disgusting bloke to stop his spitting habit?

If the spitting wasn't affecting you, then why bother sticking your nose in, in the first place?

I agree, I wouldn't recommend her confronting anyone personally but she's a hard person to reason with!
#11
yeah spitting everywhere is gross, makes me feel sick but your sister probably shouldn't of confronted him, could of got dangerous, esp on a quite station, it wasnt like he was doing owt really criminal, i would of stayed away

Apparently it was affecting her, the noise he was making was disgusting. And I've never felt the need to spit over a public place, why should he?

Spitting = no respect

i would have burst into tears!!!

ur sis is very brave and there is way too much scum around!

spiting is disgusting ..but too be honest..I wouldnt have said anything...you just never know what some people will do....

Exactly, unless he is spitting at her, then just be the adult and walk away, and avoid a confrontation.

Was it an indoor or an outdoor station? If an underground station, then she may have had a little more reason to say something

i hate this spitting thing. ive been walking behind somone with my dauhter and littlery had to jump out of the way of some one PHLEM beacuse they decided not only was it appropriate to hauck up all the grime from his nose and throat and spit it out in the middle of a busy high street but to spit it behing him without even looking. luckily my daughter was on my back in sling not in buggy as i wouldnt have got out the way of it, if she was in buggy. disgusting excuse for a man.

women do it round our way alot too. how lady like? unfortunalty being a mummy i dont feel i should say anything as u just dont know who carries knives etc these days and peopel round here wouldnt think twice bout shouting and swearing at you with babe in arms.

I'm aware of conditions which cause this, but I'm also aware of tissues. I've dealt with people with 'problems' like that and they've never felt the need to spit like that.

From what I gather this person was just doing it because he could.

To be fair...its a free world....

fair enough your sister thought it was disgusting but why does she have a right to have a go at the guy?

If it was at the station its the responsibility of the staff to have a go, not your sister...he might be disgusting but to be honest I think your sister is just as much in the wrong here..if not more

your sister should have reported it to begin with, rather than approach him. There is no need for this whether he had a condition or not, its disgusting, he also probably moans at peoples dogs shatting everywhere

no i certainly wouldnt either. but something certainly should be done to the general state of our nation. we are all too scared to comfront people. so the scum are winning. i may have said something beofre i was a mummy but not now cos my children are my priorities now, but well done to this girl for doing what we all (or most people) really wish they had the guts to do. ok it got her no where but if everyone had no fear of this man, he'd loose his power over people (thats in regards to his intimidating behaviour after she approached him-not the spitting obvioulsy)

Unfortunately it's a small station and pretty much unstaffed - I've told her if she has a problem with him again she should find somewhere there rather than confront.

Why should anyone be 'free' to spit in public areas? Surely you could say that people should be free to litter in them, too? That's disgusting and ruins our lurrverly landscape.

My sister didn't 'have a go', that would suggest she became aggressive towards him. She was cool the entire time, and approached him reasonably (if not a bit stupidly, but hey). Maybe you got the 'having a go' from me using the word troll.. I wasn't being serious there, she rose above his lameness. I've always told her "If someone has a go at you in public, imagine them sitting on the Internet using capital letters, 1's after !'s and bad grammar. You'll laugh your way through anything."

free world- yeah i love this argument, it works against you.

free world so she is free and had the right to stand on a platform waiting for a train without being made to feel sick. free world that we should be aloud to approach this person. free world to step out on a train station and only wet patches to worry about are puddles from RAIN water, not someones nasty chest phlem or suliver.

plus maybe a free world but it does have laws and this is against one. there was a spot fine for this but i guess theres too mich paper work for this to be enforced and police make some attempt and doing the more important stuff so it fizzled out:thumbsup:

I've seen dogs out drooling all over the pavement. Ban dogs from public places.

You people make me laugh, a spitting man being labelled scum. It's pathetic. There are worse people out there that truly deserve the word scum, spitting is not one of them.

my mate had a lung thing were he would spit loads, i bet that guy gets abuse for it so often (if it is a condition), and he probably feels victimized, if it is not a condition then he needs to stop.............or i will hunt him down and beat his ass!

I've seen dogs doing other things on pavements too. Perhaps we'll go ahead and liberate our race from these awful restrictions society has laid upon us?

excuse me but i think that the man in my area that very nearly spat on my daugher and me, is scum. and to be honest i rarley see respectful people, with jobs and contribute (well) to society spitting and phleming all over the place.

IMO this is awful manners, which is in other words scummy. manners cost nothing. :whistling:

This thread reminds me of my heroic efforts on the mean streets of the New York suburb of the Bronx.

so anyone that spits is scum?
what a stupid point you are making!

So eg..I work, I pay tax, I hold doors open for people, I help people when i can, I'm never purposely rude to someone and I dont cause trouble

yet

I decide to spit out some rubbish from the back of my throat as I NEVER carry tissues, then I'm scum...

We did actually have a similar story in the paper. A woman who confronted a group of chavs smoking in her face on a station platform, telling them it's against the law now, got thrown onto the tracks. The public certainly didn't say "she deserved it, how dare she stand up and do what she thought was right."

My sister certainly shouldn't have put herself in a risky position, especially alone, but that's not the point here.

At what point did we all stop caring about the state of our society? Why should everybody take the 'walk on by' attitude? Because it's easier?

actually id think what has our socitey came too, that u cant speak your mind without fear of being stabbed. its awful.

its true that we do have to fear this people but as said before everyone fearing these people is what gives these people there power. i wish i didnt have to fear approaching these sorts but i do as i have a duty to my daughter but if it had been more like this when i wasnt amum i would have taken the risk. in the hope to show more people to stand up for themselves, for socitety. fall of scum.;-)
