Ok after hint nr. 3 this week of my partner i have now decided to buy a dress for the upcoming Christmas parties.

I normally am a trousers and cardigan girl, which i now have been told makes me look older than my grandma.

So to make an effort this year i am looking to buy a dress.

I found one online, which i think is nice - but it comes in 2 colours and i am in a bit of muddle which one to buy.

Can`t go wrong with black and I might be able to wear it afterwards also - the red looks sexy but i am worried i`ll look a bit like a christmas present and not elegant ?

Hmmmmmmmmm .... I actually hate shopping and rather than asking what my partner likes best - I thought I dress up on the day and suprise him. It will be the first time in 10 years i`ll leave the heavy knitted cardigan at home (yes I know I do not have a clue about Fashion trends) ....

Any advice please?

Here is the dress =>

i think you've got good taste - looks a nice dress. I like the red, but that'd make you stand out from the crowd, you send like somebody that might prefer to blend, perhaps the black dress accessorised with some sexy red shoes and a red bag, I'm a married man and wouldn't say to trust me, I probably haven't got a clue in fariness

Ooh, that's gorgeous. Love the red, but like you say, u'll probably get more use out of the black one. Wot colour hair u got?

I buy it too if only I had somewhere to go:-(

I personally prefer the red one, it's not too fussy and flouncy so you shouldn't stand out too much. But also have to agree with dave_lunt2 in that if you would prefer to melt into the background a bit more then the black one may be a safer bet, I'd steer clear of all red accessories though, that could be a little tacky but not bad advice from a man I have to say. Either go with the red and simple shoes and accessories or for the black dress and then bling up your shoes, bag, jewellery etc with a bit of bling!!

Don't worry about standing out, if it's a proper christmas party you're going to you'd be surprised what some people turn up in. Also, ask around at your work (and get your husband to ask the women at his) what sort of thing they'll be wearing so you won't feel the odd one out.

Finally, and most importantly, perhaps its a good idea to go in the shop and try a few on if you're not sure, and find the one you feel most comfortable and relaxed in, this will make it look far sexier than a knockout dress on a person who is quite obviously not enjoying wearing it. Enjoy your parties.

Wow ! I love the dress, especially the black one, you can accessorize and change the dress everytime you use it x

Just having a bash, for a man thought I did ok, perhaps the red accessories might look tacky though. How about a nice necklace, black shoes and a silver diamonte style bag

I like both the red and the black. I agree that if you accessorise with red you risk clashing and red is the hardest colour to get good matches with. My wife often looks for a pashmina(think this is right spelling) to go round the shoulders which is good for keeping out Autumn and Winter drafts and can be plain or blinged. Its also great for going into the cold night afterwards and doesnt have the bulk of a coat.

Keep the shoes strappy and classy and you should look great!

Have fun and drink responsibly! (ie only one at a time....)

don't think it's his colour :whistling: The dress is stunning. the black would be more versatile with a fab pair of shoes. There are some really colourful ones about at the mo

I would take my partner shopping with me to somewhere like Debenhams and watch his expression.

I bought a gorgeous dress from Warehouse in May this year and I knew right away he liked it, so he bought it for me.

Good Luck.

Would go for the black and wear with bright shoes/bag, big hair and a bit of sass.

And P.S. Your chunky cardis are very in this season!

B]Thank you all so much for the advice !!![/B]

Well one thing is for sure - 99% of you like the dress so that is great to know !! That is 1 job done (Phuwww..)

Still not sure about the colour ... seems like I am still in 2 minds about that .... Gosh Gosh !!
Safe says Black - Go for it says Red .... Really still do not know !!!

Will sleep over it and order 1 tomorrow .... on to the shoes than also, just realised sneakers will not go and i must be the only woman in the world who doesn`t own a pair of heels ....

I have a 5.5 size so that might not be easy also ... but as I am going for the Wow suprise look I might as well buy a nice pair also.

Will let you know tomorrow what i bought - i really appreciate your advice and time everyone and it was great to hear about what to buy to match - makes a lot of sense altough i would never have thought of it myself.

Thanks all !!!

good luck with your choice.

I was gonna say the red - but think the black will look really classy! Plus you cant go wrong with a little black dress! ands its easy to accessories - good luck, have fun and feel glam do get to stressed! Make sure u put some piccies up xx
#23
Go for the red, everyone else will have a black one and you will just blend in rather than standing out.

Plus your black cardi will go better with the red one.
#24
Well just to let you know I have decided to order both of them - just cannot decide between red or black ...

I think when i try them on one might look better than the other and that will be the one to keep.

Thanks for all the help again all !!!
