Lookes broken to me. I can't believe there would be that many people online at that time in the morning.....
#5
Not many members. but lots of guests which kind of kills his "I guess you didnt leave afterall" theory.

It was busy yesterday afternoon, i wonder if it should be 1pm...

The member/guest ratio is actually higher now. We often have over 1200 members logged in whereas before the update 1000 would be really high and we were closer to 800 generally. I am guessing this is higher now because of the Custom tab use.

And yes it was yesterday afternoon. duckmagicuk2 started a thread in Misc...

The users online figures are calculated differently at the mo, people will be back and we'll beat that figure by about April/May when they'll start picking up again. We'll be close to it through January probably.

p.s. sorry couldn't resist being cheeky there but I think it's a bit revisionist... my memory has quite a few posts berating mods/admins/members for being brown nosers/useless/idiots/incompentent/insensitive/unresponsive/list goes on. I wouldn't make the statement though as I think it's more or less irrelevant...

I've got to get this off my chest actually. I find this thread so interesting because it reflects right back to when we made the change. If I could get up and rub that figure in a few members faces I would. Not because I care about the number or think it's an indication of success but because some members sure did... the posts of oh everyone is leaving oh look no-one is online oh look it is a failure. The fate of the site and effectiveness of the change somehow swung on this number. Well we've busted it now... does that mean everything is dandy? Are the members who took the online numbers as a harbinger of death now stepping up and saying oh geeze I spoke too soon maybe that wasn't the best number to look at. For me I think the issue of whether a change is good or bad shouldn't ride on an online number anyway; I would say it's irrelevant and wouldn't use it in an argument.

The point I want to get off my chest is that what really bugs me - I mean really bugs me - is this pessimistic wanna-be schadenfreude of some members. I understand this is typical of any large group and there is always an element that wants to see something successful fall apart. It still bugs me though. If you want to be a moping pit of negativity is there not a better outlet? Can we not at least have a community that engages in constructive conversations, helpful postings and have a little joy in life?

So yes Benjimoron you called it. Cheers to the continuing growth of HUKD and the members who continue to make the site what it is :) Let's look forward instead of looking back...

No problem with cheekiness, but no definate plans to trawl through all the posts regarding the pro & anti 'update' threads, I'll let you know if I happen accross anything in my travels......

You're not alone in remembering stack of posts insulting & being abusive Mods, Admin, the lack of adequete communication & preparation & the resisident 'brown-nosers' (your wording) & I recall that action was taken against some of these people.....I don't recall any 'pro' supporters being banned or getting slammed for repeated posts belittling more than a few of the large number of members.who had problems assuming I didn't imagine this happening.....maybe it was all entirely one-sided & my 'revisionist' memory's obviously not what it once was as I'm sure Benji will testify to!

I fully accept that the MAJORITY of members tried to help & smooth the transition

As for "more or less irrelevant", yes it was, it was an 'off the cuff' remark that I really fail to see any need for 'Management' to get involved in, unless of course it was so deeply offensive that someone felt the need to report it, in which case I whole heartedly apologise for the pain & suffering I have caused.......
[admin]#19
Sorry CHARLIETHIRTYTWO you just voiced something I've seen elsewhere and not confronted. Shot the messenger. For the record we don't distinguish abusive behaviour on whether we agree with the message - if someone was abusive at the time it should have been reported and it would have been acted on if necessary.

I don't want to trawl through posts either which is why I think it's best if members would drop whatever history they want to hold and just look forward to building a great site and community.

A. Always wear a vest when I'm dancing in no-man's land so no harm done!!!
B. There's very little I would bother reporting as abusive as from my point of view we should all be big & articulate enough to deal with what is posted on these threads.
C. YOU know my opinion all too well on the site & the changeover & I wouldn't still be posting if I didn't still rate the site.

The changes to HDUK have obviously been a "sensitive" issue so I don't think a statement of "I told you so" from any "quarter" is constructive or likely to repair any bridges - some may even see it as a bit petty.

End of the day - this site lost valuable members.......not good for anyone (except for competitor sites).

I doubt it was ever meant to build bridges or be constructive, but when you are abused for a long time, there always comes a time when you finally have to vent your feelings.

On the 'Musthave100" thread, I was called everything under the sun, and generally ridiculed.
I finally left the thread, but when my wild and libellous accusations turned out to be correct in every way, not one person mentioned a thing.

I eventually started a thread that pointed this out. I knew it wouldn't be received well, but did so anyway, it was quickly merged with another thread, but I felt a lot better.

When I generally supported how the site was going recently, I was again called silly names, those kind of things don't bother me, so (despite comments to the contrary) I never reported them....

...But I have a long memory. :)

That would explain a rise in total members, but not the record amount of people on at the same time.

of couse it does, think about it dear:roll:
[admin]#37
Putting aside anything else and just using your theory sassie it doesn't make sense. If the lurkers signed up to complain then the total numbers wouldn't go up....lurkers or registered doesn't matter to the total...that would just change the ratio of guests to logged in.

(p.s. this is kind of what I mean about being negative ... so when totals were low it was oh everyone is leaving and when totals are high it's oh all the lurkers signed up to complain?) Anyway that's why I don't think basing arguments on numbers is a good idea.
#38
And those that did sign up to complain were mostly active a week ago, the record figure was from the last couple of days, but i've not seen that many complaints in the last few days, only the odd bug report :?

We're about to do it again guys, only a couple of hundred to go. And for those earlier saying there would've been 7000 guests, look how many members on-line now!
