I've got the Snow Leopard, but I don't want to wipe XP from the Dell Mini 10v because I'd like to be able to use MS Office from time to time.

The main content doesn't, but I'll look through the comments later and see if dual booting comes up there.

I'm sure there's a way to dual boot SL & XP on a Dell Mini 10v, but even if I can't find how to do it, I'll do the hack anyway as SL is bound to be better than XP on it's own. Besides, I only want to have XP so I can use MS Office from time to time.

Thanks + rep for your replies

Good news! I found this guide on mydellmini forum. It looks quite doable, so I'm gonna give it a go. All I need to do now is find someone with a Mac who'll let me back up Snow Leopard to a flash drive :w00t:

Cheers, that looks very interesting. I'm at work just now so I don't have time to read it fully, but I'll check it out tomorrow.

p.s. how's your gadget world? Did you ever get a netbook? (I bought one of the AAOs from ASDA last January and I recall with immense clarity the outstanding contribution you made to that thread!)

you can run xp in boot camp on Mac, so you wouldn't need to dual boot.

Please tell me more about that. If there's a simpler way of running XP on my Dell Mini 10v once I hackintosh it, I definitely want to know! If you know of any useful websites that speak about your method, please include some links too.

cheers

This lets you install a new copy of XP once you have Mac OS running. You lose your original XP partition.

How would I go about that? I've never used a Mac before, so I don't know how to do that. if you can point me towards a guide, I'd be obliged.

I've actually purchased several over time (for my contract work) but right now I'm working off of a Samsung netbook with a Dell laptop being ordered via the Dell UK Outlet - I tried my best! :-D

Wow, that's fantastic! It's also more reading than all the reading I did at Uni :w00t:

It basically lets you install Windows xp inside OSX, so you can run windows programs just like normal.

http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/compatibility/
See area "It runs Windows, too"

You do not have to create an xp partition beforehand, it talks you through how to set it up, it creates a none destructive partition, so your programs won't get deleted:)

That looks brill, I'm gonna read it again and check it out once I install OSX. It might just be the simplest way to run SL and XP on my Mini10v.

If you do not delete the existing XP partition, install Mac OS and then install XP in bootcamp, how are you going to dual boot to the existing XP partition and Mac OS? ;-)

+1 - My understanding of Boot Camp was the non-Mac OS X operating systems would have to be done post-install but also there has been a few threads out there citing issues with Boot Camp on Hacintosh systems (hence the links I had added in earlier).

Mmm, I may skip this method then. I also don't have an external DVD reader. I might buy one from Argos and return it once I'm done with it. But I might not as it's a bit dishonest.

There are a few cheap DVD/DVD-RW Drives out there, so you might to have a hunt around to see if you can find one at a decent price - would also recommend checking out Amazon UK as well.

Good news! I managed to buy a brand new Xbox 360 HD-DVD Drive for £2.95 as posted here.
If I don't have time to do the install today, I'll give it a go over the weekend. ;-)

Thanks everyone who contributed. I've installed SL and it's working 99% - the side-scrolling and track-pad double click doesn't work (fortunately the main left and right click buttons do), but I can live with that. I think I'll spend time familiarising myself with SL before I attempt to run XP via Boot Camp.

EDIT: I've now got scrolling and track-pad clicking, :)
