LONG STORY ALERT:
I reveresed at slow speed into the corner bumper of a parked land rover on a petrol station forecourt. The driver was stood next to my car and instantly reacted by kicking my drivers door with full force which as creased the panel! I thought this guy was gonna kill me - he looked like a cage fighter!
My reaction was to say sorry to calm him down and I wanted to see the damage to his car. Now Ive smashed my rear light but only niked about 1cm of the rubber on his bumper. After all his vehicle is built like a tank.
Luckily his partner was there to calm him down but he was feral with anger. He shouted at her to get my details which I gave and they gave me there name, phone number and address only - not insurance company name? He then proceeded to say that he was going to the land rover garage to find out if there was any chassis damage, if there wasnt then he'd get his mate to touch up the bumper and charge me for cash. Then they got in there car to speed off and I quickly took some pictures for evidence.
I noticed that while I was writting my details a member of the petrol station came out to chat with the other driver. When I went inside to ask to speak to this man he was nowhere to be found - I asked to speak to a manager: "no, no come back tommorrow" - I asked about the cameras (which this petrol station had many of) "no no cameras not working". Funny that! The police wont be interested either as I have no witness and the petrol station are gonna play dumb.
I dont know what to do now - I dont want to claim with my insurance as Ive done such little damage to his vehicle and I have 5 years no claims which Id like to keep. He doesnt seem to want to go thorugh insurance by the sound of things?
Im already gonna be £100 down on replacing my light but whats worse is the damage he has done with his foot! To get the crease out is gonna take alot of panel beating and then a respray which will easily sting me for over £500. Timberland boots do alot of damage! On top of that Im gonna get a phone call from this matey for a wad of cash for his "repair"! Having thought about it I dont feel I should pay anything as my car is now much more damaged than his! I hold my hand up to say the accident was my fault but he did not need to react this way at all.
