I realise its not a deal but if anyone wants to contribute to the Haiti Earthquake Appeal you can do this at the DEC site from now at:

http://www.dec.org.uk/donate_now/

It makes you realise how lucky we all are.

Rep for posting this.
Yeah it really puts things in perspective for us on how lucky we are to not be in an earthquake prone country.
Hopefully a lot of the rich people could donate some of their piles of cash, that would help a lot.

this was posted today - and shocked at the sniping that went on in it.

thanks for posting OP

The sniping is because the majority are not stupid and can make a decision for themselves. Its hardly like no one knows about it, and I don't see the point or the need for this (or any other begging) thread.

Even if it helps one person to find the website to donate, it was worth it. As even a small amount of cash will help someone in great need.

How are you fundraising? I was thinking of doing a door-to-door charity collection but wasn't sure if it was ok or not.

Best thing would be to contact one of the registered organisations and get info on how you might become a volunteer. That way you know its all above board and legal and so will others who may contribute funds

in b4 we should pay for pensioners who own their own homes to go into care before we send money to worthwhile causes:)

I was pondering why people take the various stances in cases like this. Something i thought of was that many people with whatever in life only like to get involved if they feel they can make a difference. (If there is a chance of winning/ with men & tasks .. if they can fix it) . If something seems too big or overwhelming or maybe a positive outcome cannot be envisaged it can seem too overwhelming and many turn away.
Thats something I considered anyway.

Fundraising organisations need some good motivators for some people to be encouraged.

i call it the american syndrome........some people are completely unaware of whats going on other than in their own little world..........you can tell these people have never travelled and actually seen how other people have to live outside this country and the lack of support they actually get.

If you knocked on my door, you would be given a polite "no thanks"

I've always been very suspicious when people knock on my door collecting and how much actually gets handed in - if any. As if its not bad enough with the wages that gets taken from these donations, it leaves a very small percentage that gets through in aid.

If there was a good way of knowing money would get to the heart of the cause, I'd happily donate.

PS - that wasn't a pop at you personally BTW... Just my thoughts on "collecting"
