I looked a year ago and for me - A&L came tops by miles (and won the awards, also current this year as long as you put in income!) I looked this month, and for my daughter they also came tops by miles. We are going to take advantage of 10% for one year on our daughter (that's current, not savings account) and possibly transfer her over to one of the supermarkets which do a good interest as standard afterwards. If you are paying a salary in then there are good rates and no ties.

For non committal input/payment, cahoot (online only) gives a very good rate and are very dependable/reliable. Free overdraft too as standard. Interest is very decent with no hurdles.

Recommend: Cahoot or A&L depending on your circumstances. They have both been brilliant for me and I looked around and they haven't messed me around. Opening an account with A&L saves you a fortune through quido/topcashback/transfer current account!

I keep telling my bf to do this, he's having none of it.

I just get him to spend money on me instead

The alliance and leicester seriously messed me around that it led to two banking ombudsman complaints against them which were found in my favour showing how rubbish they are.......

I moved to the coventry building society and had no problem at all and get a very decent rate of interest on the WHOLE balance of my current account and none of this first £2500 only nonsense that most of the other banks offer with next to nothing above that.

Id recommend Coventry BS to anyone

Am I right in saying if I have 3000 in my bank and the rate is 5.6% then I get £168 in my bank .... for free !? I dont understand how Coventry BS can offer this but large banks like HSBC, Barclays et cannot. Can someone please explain? Thakns

i guess they are happy to get lower margins as they need to attract customers more than Barclays etc? dont forget that the rate is per annum so you'd need that average balance for a year to get those sort of returns.
