no of course u cant use cotton wool - my friend used to do work part time at a vets and said every week 1-2 very unhappy (or near dead) hampsters would be taken in Or an owner would call them and the problem being cotton wool - If you do use it then you didnt do research :(

it just looks the same dont ever use it - not only is it bad news if they eat it, it also can cut the off blood supply very easily.

Can't see it doing any harm, shredded paper will work too, as long as it's plain, printed stuff like newspaper etc. is supposed to poison them

i dont have a shredder
#6
:)just cut the paper in to thin strips
#7
No, definetely not the cotton wool!!!! Use the shredded paper as suggested.

dont be confused, i dont make stuff up :)

dont use cotton wool for hamster bedding ever.

Just because the first person to reply said they used it when they have 1 (perhaps they no longer have one due to cotton wool) dosnt mean its true..
so now you know and can educate other hamster owners.

WRONG COMPLETLEY WRONG! Do not use cotton wool, if its only until tomorrow and you have no shavings, paper shreddings then don't use anything for the night.

I use a paper shredder as well but with tissue paper. Also if you just throw a few torn up sheets of tissue paper in the cage you might find your hamster will enjoy making his own bed out of it.

ok ok, no cotton wool, will pick some bedding up in the morning, they will have to keep each other warm for tonight
#13
:? really, I used to use wool all the time with mine, and not a problem
#14
I used to have a chipmunk and would give him kitchen roll or toilet paper and he'd sit for ages shredding it to make a bed. He also liked nibbling on, playing with and sleeping inside toilet roll inserts :)

kitchen roll ok? i have loads of that?

We used cotton wool once - part of it spun into a thread & wrapped round one of the hamster's feet. Trying to remove the thread was a nightmare, and VERY painful for the hamster (one of its eyes popped out - fortunately it retracted back in after a short while).

So NEVER USE COTTON WOOL.

Any cardboard tube will make a great toy for the hamster, so use them. Kitchen rolls are OK (as is kitchen paper!)

I used to use kitcken roll (plain white, no patterns) when I ran out of bedding. Have you got any new jaycloths (all purpose cloths with the diamond design on, pale blue) - if yes, you can rip that into shreds.
