Thanks ;)

I originally brought one of the sata usb cable connection things but it didnt recognize that and started to burn! So think this will be easier.

Any idea if there any better products/prices?

What is the model number of the disk? (the pic is a bit too fuzzy for me to read it).
A Serial ATA (SATA) disk usually has the SATA logo on it which is the letters ATA with a big S across them ... yours looks more like the parallel ATA logo ... i.e. ATA without the big S across it.
Tell us the full model number from the disk and then we can be sure.

Yes, the HM160HI is a Serial ATA disk, so that adaptor will work OK - so long as you remove the disk from its current connector adaptor - you may well have to remove the mounting frame that it is in too (the black screws on the sides) in order for it to fit in the slot on the Cit DK02.

The Newlink one looks to have a similar slot that helps to line up the disk with the connectors. I'd guess all of these docking stations use the same idea. So I think you will need to remove the disk from the frame/cradle that it is in. It should be very straight forward - undo the black screws on the side. Look at the end opposite to the connectors - are there any screws there? disk should lift free of the metal frame/cradle that it is in. Remove the connector/adaptor to reveal the standard SATA connectors. Keep all of the bits as you would need them to put a disk back in your laptop.

i received the dock today, windows recognises the dock but not the hardrive? i have removed the adapter and the enclosure on the hardrive and it sits in the dock nicely but i cant access it. it just seems to be getting very hot. any ideas? is the hardrive knackered?
