Harry - Should He Go Or Not?

Just heard on the news that Harry is now NOT going to iraq - what a bloody farce!

What does everyone else think about this? I think he should go - why should he be treated specially, he joined up to the army?

If he gets killed, well, he died fighting for his country didn't he ;-)

If he wants to yes. Though I can't say I really care either way :)
#2
Definitely! Send the lot of them.
#3
Hes not doing anything else
#4
Well it's not about him putting HIMSELF at risk is it, it's about him putting those around him at more risk (because he will, obviously, be a massive target).
#5
Its his conscience if any of his soldiers get killed because of him.

But then if they get him, its one less royal we all have to pay for.
#6
No, he shouldnt.

If he went, he would be specifically targeted by hundreds of insurgents, putting everyone he is with at more risk. Loads of money will be spent trying to protect him, and it will turn into a farce. Best he stays at home.
#7
How would anyone know it was him? Does he have a target on his back or something?

They could just look for the one rolling around drunk...:whistling:

I can see both sides of the Argument, He should go because: He signed up as everybody else in the army did (all volunteers no consripts) no one forced him to take the Oath but he did, He's getting paid to do a job which he seemingly can't do because of who he is, what sort of message does this send to Mrs Smith (made up) who lost little Jimmy to a suicide bomber, It was ok to send your son Mrs Smith he's expendable, but whoa not Royalty he's far too important to get killed doing a similar job.

He shouldn't because: What a scalp for the insurgents this would be, and capturing maiming, killing Prince Harry would be a major coup for them. Also the likely hood of increased attacks on the Princes men would put them under incresed danger, as well giving the Special forces yet another task of looking after him.

I reckon he should go.

Pull them all out I say.

I think he shouldn't go, as previous people have posted he will be endangering other soldiers plus the expense of keeping him save:whistling:

I think he should use his time in a productive way but what can he do, answers on a postcard to...

I do share your view that the royal family lost relevance last century and should be abolished;-)
#14
No, He shouldn't, He'd just become "the best hostage ever"

Should he say or should he go?

"Best bait ever"
#16
Part of me says yes, send him to war. The other side of me says he would just endanger the guys around him. I kinda think that the best option would be to not even send the royals to Sandhurst. They never end up doing duty anyway, or they get some lame-assed assignment. It's not really fair to all the guys that put their lives on the line for their country that the royals pass thru military school with all the medals and stripes for doing sweet FA.
#17
send in your queen, she's a right battle-axe.

The Royals see themselves as our masters - so wouldn't Harry be master-bait then?:-D

Well I spotted the below in an Iraqi newspaper from an Iraqi official :

Iraq Today
"...I beleive the presence of Harry in our country would be beneficial. I would love Harry to cum in our country..."

The poor english must be excused due to the quote coming from a foreign official.
#22
Well this is very debatable -

He is a service personnel member and should serve his Country (and Granny :giggle: ) and should not be allowed to desert his roles, if he is allowed does this leave the way open for other people not to serve??

PS; has anyone noticed that a lot of the stamps you buy now are self adhesive, saves licking you know who - who know where :giggle:
#23
Tell everyone he isn't going n send him anyway! In full camo with a shaved head he won't look differant to any other squaddie. If he gets shot.. who cares? Just because he was born in one family shouldn't mean anything at all. Realistically the army is in the same danger as ever. Using Harry as a lure to draw out enemy forces then capturing/killing the lot of em may well be more efficient than having him sitting in the UK being a waste of taxpayer money for the unused training.
#24
NO I couldn't care less about Harry, but I do care about the lads who are in his troop. The terrorists have united on this issue, and there object is Harry, They will just be firing willy nilly at any soldier, not caring if it is Harry or not, and the poor lads who are in Harrys Troop will suffer.
#25
They fire "willy nilly" at any soldier at the moment. Harry didn't have to join the Army but he did, and I repect anyone who does. Especially with the world being the way it is, I reckon he should go thats what he joined the Army to do.
#26
willie1
yes he should go that what he joined the army for

my sentiments exactly
doubt he would be shoved onto the front line anyway there are far more minions? that will be put there first
#27
I very strongly DO NOT think he should go - guys (and girls) are getting killed on a daily basis over there. Sending him over there will give the enemy a boost with a very high profile target to aim for. More of our armed forces would end up suffering because of that. If we cant bring them all home (which it would appear that we cant or wont) then we should be protecting them as much as possible not saying "roll up roll up here have a go at a high profile target!" He doesnt have the experience or age and attitude to be there effectively and efficiently

When Andrew went to the falklands he knew his job and did not have the 'status' or publicity Harry has now. Andrew was a pilot who knew his role and did it effectively. Different scenario
#28
I don't know a 2nd Lt that does have the experience or age and attitude to be there effectively and efficiently

I kinda think that the best option would be to not even send the royals to Sandhurst.

I think that would have been the best idea too. With all the aides and advisors that the Royals have now - was the writing not on the wall before he joined up for Gods sake!?!? Why has this issue only be considered now?? It was pretty damned obvious from his first day of training that at some stage his Regiment would have to serve in theatre. His presence should not jeopardize his fellow servicemen and women, BUT he did sign up to serve in H.is M.ummys Forces under the same terms of service as all the others. Either he or his advisors should have considered the consequences of his Service engagement YEARS ago:x :x

PADDY O FURNITURE

From a fellow "services" point of view, i do agree with you, the fact that he signed the oath and there is no ifs or buts for us regular troops. Although i disagree with the final thought...i DO NOT think he should go. He will be a massive complication to the troops around him. At the end of the day, yes the royals are a pain in the ass, and its a fair point to "get rid of the lot of them" but is it a fair point, to have innocent "joe bloggs" being put into danger because of who he is? I think not!

100% agree with you, IMO the most sensible post ever posted on here!
[admin]#32
Lulus right- he'll be a hot target to any enemy and anybody near him will be collateral damage.

That might not make any sense. I'll look at it again tomorrow and try and come up with a more coherent answer :giggle:
#33
just send him to them gift wrapped lol ! not like he will be king!!!!

LOL JOKE!
#34
I'd hate to be in his platoon (Is that what its called? Sounds army-like). You might aswell just paint bulls eyes on your helmets.

I wonder what the ransom would be for Harry?
#35
tbh who cares if he goes or not!

hes no one special!

I think he meant that he is only 3rd in line for the throne so from that point he is no one special, might as well go and make a name for himself.
#38
i think they should say he isn't going. and then send him anyway. who's going to recognise him in army gear anyway? plus why enlist with the army and then not do anything? seems a bit pointless to me that
#39
I guess he will be recognised due to the 10000s of hours of media attention this is getting. I wouldn't be suprised if the news reports the date he is leaving, the name of his platoon and where they will be having lunch.
