Has anyone been asked for ID at a concert?

My husband has managed to book 3 tickets to see Kings of Leon at Sheffield and is going with his bro-in-law and taking our nephew to his first ever concert. The only problem is, after booking the tickets he then read (typical bloke, reads the small print AFTER the event) that there is a minimum age of 16 in the standing area where he has bought the tickets for.

When the concert is on my nephew will be 15½ but definitely looks 16 so I just wondered if anyone else had been to a concert in a similar position and if they asked for ID for youngsters. My instinct is that if he looks 16 then they'll not be bothered, especially as he's going with 2 other guys in their mid thirties but I wanted piece of mind (or not as the case may be) before we tell our nephew we've got him a ticket.

If you're that worried, take a black pen to your passport, take a photocopy, then rub the pen off, that's what I did when I went to my first gig at about 14 and I wasn't even asked for anything. I hardly look my age too :p

Wanted to avoid this if possible but thanks for the info anyway (I think). We're not going to tell him he's not old enough as he'll only look guilty so therefore probably wouldn't be able to have any ID with them.

We did the exact same thing for a concert at O2, son was 15 at the time.

No ID was asked for and we didn't see them ask anyone. I would't worry about it.

I doubt there'll be any problems, especially if he's with 2 adults.

Don't worry, it'll be fine. My dad, bro and I have been to 18+ concerts - my bro is 16 and got in no questions asked with us.

They'll turn away groups of kids though if they don't have ID.

they really only set those age limits for safety reasons so kids dont get pushed squashed & trampled. I would guess if you arent worried they wouldnt be, more likely to only raise eyebrows if you try to smuggle a toddler in.

I took my son to see RH Chili Peppers when he was 12, didn't get asked for his ID, I thought they could be accompanied by an adult if under 16, anyway don't worry, I doubt he will be asked. I hope he has a great time :)

Thanks everyone, this is what I thought but it's nice to hear opinions from other people too. In answer to joesmum, in the seats the age is 12-16 but standing is over 16. I'm sure he'll be fine as he's 5'9" now with a few months to go yet and looks 16, my hubby said he'll just tell him not to shave for a while!!

They do ask the the Sheffield Arena, have seen it happen a few times at concerts.....its a gamble

Doubt it- i didn't get asked and i'm only 13 so 5% chance imo.

Not sure what they expect a 16yr old to have ID wise anyway that we could take. His passport has expired and a birth certificate could belong to anyone.

Just in case anyone else has the same query, I contact Sheffield Arena and explained that we were bringing a nephew who had would have just turned 16 (OK, so a little white lie) and what did we need to do and they replied to say that as long as he looked 16 then we probably wouldn't be asked but to be on the safe side bring a copy of his birth certificate and they would take our word for it that it belonged to him as obviously there's no photo on it. So perhaps we'll get one of his older friends to lend him their birth certificate to photocopy - strange form of ID if you ask me but at least my minds been put at rest that we'll get him in no probs. Thanks again to all who replied.
