Has anyone been to Clearwell Castle?

Does anyone know the Toll details for the Severn Bridge? I'm sure you pay to get over the bridge and into Wales, but free on the reverse to get into England.

Got a wedding to go to coming up at Clearwell Castle.... which should be nice. Staying on the wedding night in the castle too and staying the previous night in a hotel in Ross on Wye.

I think the bridge is the easiest / quickest route for both directions, though know its free with a blue badge. We'll be going with a blue badge holder, but returning without one. I think that gives us a freebie return crossing.

Anyone able to confirm?

Ta

EDIT:...... OK Thanks....... I now know the score for the toll bridge.....

Pay to get in to wales (westbound), dont pay to get out (eastbound)

Can't pay with cards (you could during the Ryder Cup, but now you can't while some engineering works take place or summut).

Same on both bridges.

Where you coming from guv? The A48 from Gloucester to Chepstow is a great driving road.

I dunno, take the blue badged holder to get into wales for free and then leave the poor person there! Thats nice!!

Your right though, pay to get in if there is no blue badge holder, free to escape.....

From the M25, we have the choice of M4 and through Cirencester / Cheltenham / Gloucester - or M4 and over the bridge, or through Oxford and the A40. Dont think there would be much in it journey time.

I need to make sure we dont hang about on the return too, as the littluns football team kick off has been changed so he can play to 2pm. (Important to have a goalie!)

LOL......... its not how it sounds..... honest! Poor old booger is being admitted to hospital again today.... just 2 weeks after being let out with a fractured spine... when they didnt even think he need to admit him in the first place. "Will you be able to look after him" I was asked. Poor sod couldnt even move without being doubled up in pain. His release notes said "2 bed days saved"..... sounds like false economy to me.

If you're going from a to b, the M4 bridge is the no brainer - especially with the blue badge.
If you're tossing around and looking for a pub stop etc, the A417/419 onto the A48 is a winner, but a long detour.

A40 is a killer, nice, but slow going in England and Wales.

Cool, Ta.

Yeh, the plan is just to get there as quick as possible. Sitting in a car with a broken spine is no fun! (That's if he makes it of course - and he would be devastated if he doesn't.)

I'll be in my nice new car (Albeit one year old now) you cant miss it. (Actually - that said, I might have to use the old Zafira as the seating position is better suited for the old booger with the blue badge!)

Inb4 the police dont actually abuse their powers or be vindictive in any way at all.

I photographed a wedding at the castle last January and it probably makes for the best wedding venue I've ever been to.

You get exclusive use of the castle and bedrooms and the food is amazing so I'm sure you'll have a nice time!

Thanks for that. I've not even heard of it before. I bought a Canon 550D last weekend especially for the day. (Though will obviously be using it beyond that!) weddings are normally a bit of a drag for me, but really looking forward to this one.

I think you've misread the title.

I asked about a toll .... it wasn't an invite to troll. 8)

Notice I'm ignoring the bike comments? Thats because my car's not in good shape at the mo. Running rough and no power. Think a turbo hose has a hole in it, so I can't outrun much at the mo :(

Wow...... I have to conclude I'm in full agreement. What an absolutely fantastic venue. Just a fantastic weekend enhanced by the staff, grounds and buildings of Clearwell castle.

Can't believe the bride and groom are now on their 8 week honeymoon to Africa. (Which would appear to be an odd choice for a honeymoon, but not when you are talking about someone so weel travelled as they are. (She is the only person I know who has been on all continents - inc Antartica!)
