Can you just quickly explain to me how it works. We fly at 7.20 next fri morning but staying in hotel night before so would like to get rid of the bags day before, checked with first choice and we can. Do u need to take hand luggage day beofre as well as suitcases? im also paranoid they are more likely to get lost being there from the day before!

Just check-in as normal the day before, they don't need your hand luggage and they give you your boarding cards so extra time in bed.

what a great idea .. First I've heard of this !
I'm flying from Gatwick in a couple of weeks so please post back on how you got on :)

wow the check in desks for ur flight will be open at night?!

It depends who you are flying with. I'm sure it is only TCX & FCA, TOM dropped it at the end of last year. (Talking charter here) It is just a whole load of desks dedciated to one airline, no specified desk for your flight and you check in as normal. It helps if you are a family as it's easier to get the seats you want.

They won't lose your luggage, it's more than likely put in a holding area in baggage, or if your aircraft is in the night before, it might be parked next to the plane.

You must bring to the airport:

A letter of confirmation from First Choice Airways

Everyone’s tickets and passports

All baggage to be checked in
You shouldn't need your hand baggage, as it isn't checked in. (Techincally ie no baggage tag)

Did this last year (along with quite a few other people flying the next morning!). There was a bit of a queue, but the difference the next morning was fantastic! Just sailed past the BIG queues straight through security - will definitely do it again.

The only downside is that there is no chance of you blagging an upgrade using this method.

I used this through virgin in SEP 05

Im mainly doing it so the kids havent got to stand in a big long line at 5am! thanks for putting my mind at rest, never flew from gatwick so quite daunting.

I dread to think what it's going to be like next summer with First Choice Airways & Thomsonfly combining to make Thomson Airways.

They already have merged the queues for these two. The queue last month snaked all around gatwick terminal and out the door. It took us 90 minutes to check-in so wont be using these airlines ever again.

The worst thing was that people were just turning up late and being sent straight to the front of the queue thus forcing everyone else back!

That is pretty much the problem with having uniqueues,

You turn up early then some latecoming twonk gets priority ¬_¬

Thomas cook and excel have always been minimal queues in my experience so will just use them from now.

I'm flying with Excel on Wednesday at 6am.. I have two kids, do we all need to go to the airport if I want to do a night before checkin ?? or can I just go along with the passports etc. Is it worth it for Excel ?

I'm checking my baggage in the night before I fly at the North Terminal (Gatwick). Can somebody give me the heads up on where to park please as i don't want to shell out if I don't have to.

Gatwick now have a policy where everyone has to park using the short stay car parks, even the taxi's. Only exceptions are buses from hotels and offsite parking. So if you are staying at a local hotel, you could ask them if you can cheekily use their bus to book in and then use another one of theirs back for your stay.
