Has anyone got a Whirlpool Sixth Sense Fridge Freezer please?

If so I'm looking for advice. We bought ours second hand from the previous house owners and they told us we needed to replace the water filter. Can anyone tell me where they get theirs from (I notice you can get them for quite good prices on ebay) and do I need to get it serviced professionally?

Yes, I buy replacement cartridges from ebay. I have bought from seller appliancesparesuk in the past. Not sure you need it serviced.

small note about these machines.... we have had since re-fitting out kitchen. It developed a problem and we had to call to get it looked at. we were adviced that as it was outside the guarantee period it could cost quite a lot to repair, and were told about an insurance scheme Whirlpool opperate (not cheap from memory, but DEFINATELY worthwhile) They sent two different service engineers around to fix it, and it turns out they had a problem with their main circuit boards (located behind the buttons that operate everything, above the ice and water dispenser) This part alone would have cost in the region of £5-600 to replace and ahd to be specially ordered for us. According to both engineers, this part controls the entire fridge freezer, tempertaure control, lights through to making the ice! If you add on the call out fees and time to replace the parts, this would have come to more than the machine cost in the first place! So if you start getting problems where it doesnt regulate temp properly/stops making ice/ lights start playing funny games as if sending signals at night! Give whirlpool a call and mention the insurance thing, although avoid buying filters from them as they charge through the nose. going to give ebay a go myself :)

In fairness, my boss had the same problem with his fridge freezer (Meitag and cost thousands). I can't tell you how much that ended up costing him!

If you have a chance to extend your warranty for a small cost then I would recommend you take it up.

Our Whirlpool side by side came with a 10 year parts guarantee. They offered to upgrade me a 5 years labour guarantee for about £50 which I took up. Last month the filter casing split and started leaking water. One call and an engineer turned up and arranged for its replacement. The replacement part had to be ordered from Italy but they came back and sorted it all out. Dread to think how much 2 visits and parts/labour would have cost without the insurance.

Hmm, as I bought this from the previous house owners, wonder if I'd be able to get insurance/warranty?
