10meg net (cant see any reason for wanting quicker than that as a film takes about 20 mins to DL)

Because a 50meg connection will do it in 5 mins?

Thats like saying why have 10 meg when you can have 2.

its just gone up from £17 but no contract involved.

each time they put the price up I just ring and threaten to leave and they offer me loads off.

Had to get within 2 days of an actual cancellation once before they bottled it and rang me ofering me half price last year lol

only problem with virginmedia, if you EVER phone them to change your package, no matter how silly a change it is, they automatically put you on ANOTHER 12 month contract from that point, WITHOUT telling you!

DOH! I know that but seriously who needs to download a film every 5 minutes! I download about 100GB per month and always have tonnes of stuff to watch so cannot fathom why anyone needs more than 10mb unless they are very impatient.

Dont bother with VM TV as everything is free on the net anyway and my Humax is better than a V+ box and just requires a one-off £100 purchase. :-D

you can get around that by saying you're moving if you dont want their services any more so its not really a problem.

They usually call you back within a week of disconnection, stating you are a valued long term customer and then make a good offer

maybe try a price for M size BB (10mb) as if you get the same as me then that would save you £300 per year! Unless of course you really need 50mb but I cant see any reason why people need those speeds unless they download and watch h264 films ALL day EVERY day.

I am thinking of going back to 10meg, i will need an N router for my OH son so his 360 will work of the wireless, Hopefully if i do stay with virgin they will let me keep the 50meg modem routers :? ( tbh not to sure )

BTW i keep explaining to my OH that the speed the laptop uses web browsers while loading up the site is to do with the amount of people using that site on being slow ( servers ) and has nothing to do with the 50meg as the 50 meg is only download speed :-D ( it does make web surfing a bit quicker )

Well had a call from virgin

There new offer to me is

6months free line rental ( renewing a 12 month contract )

free 45channel tv

with 50meg net ( 28.99 for 6 months then for last 6 months 39.99 )

internet and tv is monthly rollover not tied to a contract,

nice offer but not good enough hopefully they offer something better
#20
50MB to new customers is only £28 if taken with a phone line. Looks like they are well overcharging you with the XXL. Just enough to get back the 6 months free line rental they are giving you. Not that They would do that intentially of course

I'm paying £2 odds just to have evening and weekends

£28.99 + £11.99 for 50meg and phone line so no I haven't been overcharged

However on the phone virgin alledge that I am already getting £15-17 discount which is a lie, and they couldn't clearly specify what is discounted

I did this thinking they'd be keen ... she offered me £5 off my current package for the same services on the basis I signup for another 12 month contract. I said no thanks.

Have therefore downgraded the TV to M+, cancelled phone and just left Large internet. Still costing £28pm. Got an Xbox with XMBC off FS/FT so will just setup streaming for kids cartoons instead of paying an extra £20 for the XL TV package just for 5-6 kids channels!

Sorry didn't see the Net part which will include line Rental. Doubtfull you will get any chaeaper than that TBH unless BT fibre are in your area already. Whatever deal you get offered though i would want it in writing apparently some Virgin Media sales staff are known for offering stuff which they cannot do.
