Has anyone really lost weight or got fit using Wii fit?

I bought a Wii fit for the kids and myself, and after a few days of using it I'm really not convinced that it isn't just another game. Maybe as we unlock more reps and exercises it'll be more of a workout, but at the minute I really don;t think it would help weight loss or improve fitness- I'd love to be proved wrong though!

To be honest I couldn't tell you.
Bought one at the start of December and it just been gathering dust ever since.
I think all the hype went as soon as I bought it!
So if you count going out to the shops and back again as exercise then that's all it's made me do. LOL:-D

I don’t think you would lose any considerable calories / pounds.

Depending on your body weight I reckon in a 30 minute wii fit session you would lose between 30-50 calories (1 Jaffa cake) lol.

Thankfully I am nearly off my diet!!!... In 8 months I have lost nearly 5 stone - only a couple of pounds left.

Thank you guys :) all your support is much appreciated.

Firstly and most importantly I had lots of motivation. My dad passed away with diabetes and renal failure due to poor diet/health/lifestyle. When he passed away it really motivated me to do something about myself – I was obese and heading for trouble too. He always used to tell me to look after myself and not get ill like him. So firstly if you are serious about loosing allot of weight then I believe you need a motivational factor; maybe kids or a dress you want to fit into!

Next was the diet. My diet was a calorie controlled diet with integrated exercise.

I gave my self a range of between 1000 and 1200 calories per day – essentially halving the RDA. I know it seems a bit drastic but I did consult my doctor and he said it was “okay” if done sensibly. He also told me the most important factor in this diet would be water! It was fairly easy to adjust to the diet, the first month was hard because my body was not used to the reduced calories. I also went for a daily 30 min jog/run 4 times a week. I drank about 9/10 glasses of water per day. (Water also quenches hunger) and my skin has also improved (no more teenage spotty skin)

In the diet I ate a wide range of foods within 1200 calories; including healthy snacks / wholegrain Kellogg cereals / protein meats / boiled vegetables etc. I ate at regular intervals - it’s recommended to eat /snack every 3/4 hours. With this diet all you have to do is look on the back of the food pack and see how many calories are in there. Its not hard at all, I can now tell you calories off by heart in almost every food. LOL I even had “days off” where I would treat myself to a burger or a naughty kebab once a week.

I reckon prior to the diet I used to eat about 3500 calories a day without any proper exercise! I am nearly at my target weight now so I will then stick to my 2500 calories and below RDA and keep the exercise up for life! Remember to weigh yourself weekly not daily.

That’s it – if you want any other info or advice just PM me. I am not a weight loss counsellor or qualified in any such thing. Also remember to consult your doctor too.

Thanks everyone - and well done Danny, shame it was such a tragedy that motivated you, but you must be incredibly proud of yourself.

I used the Wii fit yesterday and earlier today, and am amazed to have really achy legs right now!! I will try to stick at it, and wish I had the willpower to stick to a 1200 calorie a day diet.

My Wii Fit got shelved after about 2-3 weeks of daily 30 min use, miss a few days here and there.

It got boring quite fast really, done it just out of routine.

Really I would have enjoyed it more if i had more of an aim, when you are ideal bmi it simply tells you to aim 'to stay the same weight' which to be honest is not much motivation to keep doing it, and just more boring each time since my weight wasnt moving e.t.c.

It was sort of fun at first when unlocking the new exercises, and it did get more tiring, it felt like I had done a proper workout after 30 minutes e.t.c

However I sort of wish it was more of a 'pick the time you want to work out for' then if you picked say 30 minutes it would randomly make you an exercise regime that would last 30 minutes out of allt he different exercises and mini games. I would have enjoyed it alot more if that was the case.

I think I would enjoy it if i did have weight to loose though.

However it was not worth the money then and is certainly not worth whats being charged now, I would advise everyone not to bother unless you really want the board for Rayman TV Party which makes alot better use of it (still not enough for it to be worth the money though!)

Ooooh, I really like your idea of a 30 minute workout selection, I feel with working for 2 minutes, then stopping while I choose a to retry or pick a new exercise. there's too much resting and not enough working!

Does anyone want to sell theirs to me?
I am convinced it is nothing but a gimmick, but She Who Must Be Obeyed and She Who Must Be Obeyed Jnr say we have to get one.

You're missing the point, the person would like the game to choose a selection of activities lasting 30 minutes - running fo4 30 minutes doesn't do much for many of your muscle groups. As it stands you do an activity, then you have to use the Wimote to work through the menus and choose another which makes it quite disjointed. Given it tracks which exercises you're doing as well as your weight it would make a lot of sense for the game to choose a set of activities it thought you needed to do.

Given the game format it would be easy enough to add quite a bit of variety while doing the jogging or whatever activity rather than either static environments or fairly bland ones. The game also seems to focus on light exercise and doesn't give much facility to push or challenge yourself. When doing the jogging you're only able to keep pace with your trainer rather than race him and it's slow progress training your trainer in the push up challenge as he starts off at only ten and slowly increments.

I was genuinely interested in the system and the general design does seem pretty good, particularly the muscle workouts (can't tell if muscles are any better but they do hurt after doing it for a while) although it's telling me my challenge is to gain three stones(!) I'm not a gym person at all but feel I should be doing some sort of all round exercise.
