Don't! Go to your local jewellers instead, you'll get a better deal.

as above i wouldnt trust them really, there are lots of jewellers giving better deals on the high street and u get cash in ur hand

I think my partner used Postal Gold recently. She just had odd bits and pieces of gold jewellery hanging around at home - things that she'll never ever wear again. Posted it off and got about £100 back in about a week. No idea what the true value was but she was happy enough with that amount.

don't use them i took all my gold jewelery to high street jewellers and got about £480 for all mine, could have got more if i chose to spend at their store.

I read a report the other day basically saying you get as little as 15% of its real scrap value if you send it in to one of those cash for gold things.

oooooooo thanks for that I just weighed it and went on one of those sites to see how much they would give me, it was just over £700 but if I can get more that would be even better....

thanks for all your info :)

Without knowing exactly what your selling its hard to find out if its a good price but i would recommend you visit at least one or two proper jewellery shops and get offers first.

I agree.

You only get the scrap metal price from these melters, but the jeweller may be able to sell the item on, and so get a lot more markup, rather than scrap it.

If so, they should be able to offer much better price for the items that they can sell secondhand.

Years and years ago, when I assayed scrap gold, gold was £5 a gram.

The intrinsic value of a ring with a gram of gold in it is that, plus the manufacturing and artistic input, scarcity value, etc. Could be hundreds or even thousands of pounds especially if associated with a rare precious stone of some kind.

I took stuff to a pawnbroker and I was happy with the price I got for that. It's a worthwhile option if there's not a jeweller in you're area that's buying. I'd certainly not send to one of the postal services tho'. There's no way you'll get a good price from them. Stay local and you'll be OK.

I presume it's a good time to be buying gold, rather than selling it, with all those adverts on at the moment?

I second this site !!

Took my gold bracelet to a few local jewellers & was offered between £200-300 for it.

Went on the site above, was offered £535 !!

Sent it off Special Delivery, got an email at 12:30 the next day confirming price, by 5pm cash was in my bank

+1 I've used this place a few times and they have been great. Best prices and payment methods via cheque, Bank Transfer or PayPal, although I wouldnt go for the Paypal as paypal will charge their fee. Cheque or BT are the best options here. As for processing and paying, all of this was done in less than 5 days when I sent the gold Special Delivery.

I sent the Silver recorded delivery and it took maybe a few extra days. but they are reliable. :)

I havn't, i think the shop has changed hands recently so might be worth a trip down if you are looking to sell some or you could give them a call. . 01908 312611

I sent what I thought was 9 ct gold to Hatton Garden metals and they contacted me and advised me some of it was 18 ct, So I would say they are very honest and pay a good rate for gold:thumbsup::-D

Bit in the paper about them.. The price you get is not anything like what you should get
