Maybe youre a fan of Zune MP3 players because youre a PC at heart, or maybe you just want to stick it to the evil Apple empire. Either way, wed be interested to hear whats going on with your Zune player today, specifically if its a 30 GB Zune.

Gizmodo is reporting that Zunes everywhere have failed near-simultaneously: the players are freezing, failing to reboot, non-responsive etc. There are literally hundreds of reports from owners in online forums. Such a synchronised failing would suggest a specific version of operating software contained undetected errors. Such problems arent uncommon - a recent software update crippled Sky+ boxes across the country.
hundreds of players failing simultaneously

No doubt Microsoft engineers are currently running around like headless chickens trying to come up with a solution; if youre currently experiencing similar problems, let us know. Then go buy an iPod, fool.

Similar has, of course, happened to numerous Apple Ipods in their years. Just to avoid any slight level of bias.

It is often as a result of the continuous updating that seems to be the accepted norm now, rather than producing a top quality product first; you get people's money then fix the problems, if you can, later.
This may be of interest, the code the Zune loops though during boot...

while (days > 365)
if (IsLeapYear(year))
if (days > 366)
days -= 366;
year += 1;
days -= 365;
year += 1;

Essentially, if days > 365 but <=366, it will loop forever. So on the first day of a leap year, Zune's will not boot, but thereafter they will be fine, although you may need to let the battery run out first.
