Have a windows 7 machine but want to run ubuntu 10.10 and want to run as either a dual boot or buy another drive and install ubuntu 10.10 on that.

Never tried his before so would appreciate and help on how, what or what to look out for before doing this.

Any helpful advice appreciated.

Thx

All explained here. Read it a couple of times before trying it. Let me know if you have any problems.

Actually, on windows 7, defrag your disc, then resize the partition so there is free space to create a linux partition. See also ubuntuforums, an army of folk there to advice.

What's up with it? Apart from the fact whenever you upgrade a component you have to ring their damn Indian call centre to activate because it won't work over the internet or auto register your keypad presses.

And the rest..............Printer drivers , sound drivers and on and on and on...............Yawn!! Lose the will to live while its booting up.................Yada yada Yada.

I mean if I had to update a bit or hardware as much as a windows run computer I just paid £500 for and take that as normal then something is really wrong!!

Wait a minute,oO That's exactly what I do!!

I want to try something new and Windows ait it.

Note that installing via wubi, ubuntu will run a bit slower than it would if it was installed properly

Installed 10.10 on my HP laptop, everything worked "out of the box". After installing Ati propriatry driver box popped up.

I moved from windows 7 as it was using too much system resource while idling.
With Ubuntu I no longer have this issue and have a nice fast 3d accelerated desktop, with effects windows 7 doesn't have.
