I have recently had my car serviced(3rd Annual) and paid £139, i asked them to tick the service book as last year i was unsure of what they had done, its only 3 yrs old and only done 15000 miles, they have only ticked brake fluid, tyre inflation and brake pads(checked) does this seem ok,( its a vauxhall corsa)

why don`t you go back to the vauxhall garage and get them to explain their charges and a break down of what they do for the charge

They checked tyre inflation? (you can do that for free at a sainsbury petrol station or 20p at other garages)
They checked your break pads? (you can do that yourself by bending over and looking)
They checked brake fluid? (you can open your bonnet and look to see if its between the min and max line)

In short I would have done all that for £2.50 incl VAT... so yes you got ripped off.

was it a main dealer or local garage? if a dealer they will have done a lot more than this, probably just forgot to list or sign for what they actually 'did'. Saying that nearly all car services are a rip off.

Dealer wanted £30 to reset my mates Freelander service light after a local garage serviced it, 30 seconds on google found how to do it, even the garage didn't know how to.

Just phone them up and ask, as I doubt anyone who works there posts on here.

That price for a standard service including oil and filter change, changing brake fluid and checking stuff sounds about right from a dealer, not saying its good value but its about the going rate.

dont you have a receipt stating what work had been done or just a service book stamp?

Hi,

Most new cars come with a 3 year service/warranty, which is transferable. even if you did not originally own it from new. The Dealer should have been able to tell you this from your car registration number.

Worth checking as I did with mine,

OP did you get an oil & filter change in with that ?

also in with checking the tyre inflation, is checking for any lumps, damage to tyres & road wheels & a tread depth reading.

you can do, but without taking the wheels off, you will never know what the brake pad/shoe thickness is or whether you have leaking wheel cylinders if you have brake shoes on the back.

They checked brake fluid? (you can open your bonnet and look to see if its between the min and max line)
again you can do that, but thats not a proper brake fluid check, you also need to check the boiling point of the brake fluid.

yes it was a main dealer and i did ask them to tick all the boxes so i could tell what they had done, because last time i couldnt tell either, unfortunately i didnt learn my lesson then either

I have a Honda and my last Honda service cost me £200, they changed the oil, filter and checked levels and topped up where needed. Other than that the other 25 or check boxes were things like "Check operation of windscreen washers", etc. Absolute rip off but gives a main dealer stamp in your book so is it worth it? Cars sell better with main dealer service history so what do you do?

Hi
Have just been knocked for six! by Lookers Vauxhall Dealers in Speke, Liverpool my Zafira 2006 Club 1.6 was due a annually interim service & Mot in january 2012! but i had a problems with my 2 rear doors they would not open due to a wiring problem! also had a side passenger wing mirror snapped by a bamboon! which needed attention! So i asked them to do me the service & to look at the back doors & wing mirror! They came back to me with allkinds need doing to it! Front Brakes & Rear Brakes also Oil leak from the gasket! I knew it was going to be expensive with the service & labour charges! but was never expecting the price they gave me! £1626.50 the car itself is only valued at around £5000! It will be the first & last time i use a dealership! i know it needed some work to it but this is a ridiculous price! I have only paid it becuse of the quickness of the work & the safety of my children having piece of mind knowing Vauxhalls Mechanics have carried out the work on the safety (Brakes, Doors, Oil Leaks etc) on the car!

Is there anyway i can check their prices with?

Kind Regards
Gazza
