Ebay has been a rip of for ages, you pay your fees in ebay you then pay your PayPal fees (who ebay now own I believe) its ridiculous. Everyone is that used to ebay though selling through other competitor sites is difficult.

Doubt it. Most people don't even realise how much the fees are until they get their invoice. At least it tells you you're gonna get ripped off on the last page of listing - it tells you what your fees will be if your items sells for X.

I always try and work out whether it's worth selling for more on eBay (but getting stung with fees) or selling on here / another forum and getting less (but no fees).

Erm, no, it's nothing like this forum.

For a start, its primarily there as a source of info for audio visual equipment and that genre. And secondly, the FS section is run properly.

By the time you pay ebay & paypal fee's it's around 16% & that let's not kid ourselves is very very expensive for a site just letting you use it's base.

When something is as big as ebay how does anyone ever challenge it for sales? No one wants to sell on another site as hardly anyone ever goes on there so how will it ever be toppled or even challenged. Is it just a case of someone sinking millions into advertising the alternative?

I'd really like to see a good alternative to ebay but just can't see it ever happening as they are just far to big now, a bit like microsoft and apple will be, everyone is used to using them and scared to switch.

You could possibly do it,but would run at a loss for a while.
Say HotUKdeals had changed the for sale & replaced it with the tools you get on ebay for making a listing & also included the paypal in every listing then charge 0% for say the first 2 years then I'm sure they would then have lots of UK sellers & buyers on here using the site. After 2 years they would then do what ebay did & start adding % to the sellers.

You realise ebay is a very expencive thing to run and the paypakl fees are kept by paypal (it works with ebay because its owned by them)..

It does take the p***, I sold about £175 odd and Ebay have had £20 off me in fees, then theres whatever Paypal has had off me too.. I can see why people used to put silly prices on their postage to cover some of it (although its ruined it for everyone now, Ive sold things and had to foot the excess because I wasn't allowed to charge enough in the first place).
Then theres the changes to feedback too..

Where else can you sell though, the Mr refuses to do a carboot with me (I dont fancy doing it on my own!), and its stuff that probably wouldnt sell on here either. It does bug me and I kind of hate Ebay, inc the hassle I get too.. (and sorry girls, but women are the worst! Ive just had 2 emails re "Where is my item?" less than 48hrs after and item sold/was paid for! Ive never had a single problem with a guy yet..).

Until people use places like ebid, ebay will always the the **** (I dont use it the only things i sell are on here tbh). Also on ebid things dont go for that cheap and things are easier to find, no china imports (yet) and you are not forced to put PAYPAL as a preffered why of paying which really gets on my ****.
