Have I been black-balled?

Have I upset someone on here? I've been a member here some 4 months, posting regularly etc, but lately when I post a deal, either no-one is bothered or the deal gets deleted! I've just posted a deal for Windows Vista and it's immediately -3 ice cold?

I do have to wonder why I bother!

correction - now -16 degrees, 'cos it's cheaper elsewhere.
#2
dont take it to heart, look like its just available elsewhere cheaper

Hmm, that must be annoying. Your Singstar deal went down okay though :)
I've noticed a lot of deals being voted cold from the outset recently, so you're not alone.

well this site is all about saving mney so if its available elsewhere cheaper, your post is not technically a 'hot' deal :)

My amazon wii thread was voted cold immediatelly, ok it was retail price, but, if you could find one eleswhere you would pay more!
[admin]#6
No offence meant jayhab but you have to make sure to do a bit of price comparison before posting an offer. The Vista OEM is available cheaper at quite a few places. Sometimes merchants send out an email with wow wow promotional speak but always check it out before posting as often it's not what they make it sound like...

Very true.

Yuo, another example of someone not bothering to do 3/4 minutes of research before a post. I must admit I have been guilty of it once or twice but 99% of the time I check both goodgle and then the search function on this site to see if it could be a double post.

Trust me, it's not rocket science.

There is a nice thread next door in the suggestions forum about cold voting. Suprisingly some people vote all deals cold unless its something of interest to them. It is downheartening when you post what you think is a great deal only for it to be voted cold and no reason is given. The guitar hero package for £40 was voted cold initially.....

I suspect some PSP fans vote all xbox deals cold and some MS haters will vote all Vista posts cold no matter what the price......

As they say in the Godfather "it's not personal, it's business..."

believe it or not i did a search for 'Vista' before posting - the only 'relevent' post returned were for laptops pre-installed with Vista - perhaps I should have run a filter search on every merchent on the site, or reviewed every deal posted for the last 3/4 weeks?
or perhaps the search function and the results it finds should be a little more accurate?

Or a quick Google?

But I am with you on the search function within the site. It can be a bit of a bummer at times.

I've only been using this site for a month so am a newbie.
I think it is an absolutely brilliant site but......and its a big but...........there are some people who make sarcastic comments which I feel are unnecessary.
Everyone who posts a deal does it with the best intentions.
Nobody posts a deal to wind anybody up or deliberately be unhelpful but sometimes they manage to get some nasty remarks or snide comments which I personally think is uncalled for.

If you don't think its a good deal, ignore it or offer some productive advice, don't get shirty!

Sometimes its a clear case of misreading a sentence, as we do with texts. What can sometimes be read as sarcastic isn't meant in that way at all.

If you had followed the search tips here, you could narrow down the dearch to vista in the titles, in the hot deals forum, giving a much shorter list to glance down.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/search.php?searchid=644791

OK it's not great, but it helps - there are only 2 pages of search results.

I have an RSS feed to deals and when a deal is posted and its rubbish it wastes my time looking at it, it has to be a "hot" deal and people keep posting just normal "deals".

Also in that thread some older members admit to voting cold on deals if they don't like the OP, so yes jayhab it could be personal if you have done something to annoy someone. Sad but true.

Starlet , theres no need to spread it all around! Thanks for starting a hate campaign!

I voted cold on the deal they are talking about not because of the OP but because it was rubbish! Wasnt even close to being a deal!
#17
To be honest gary I thought you did a pretty good campaign all by yourself:thumbsup:

Thanks for the post kAREN-ANGEL. I think members like yourself with a bit more perspective have a lot to offer discussions like this.

jayhab - check the forum but also check sites like pricerunner/kelkoo/dealtime.

I find smilies really help with this, as childish as it may seem. :-D

I rarely do use the smilies as I normally quick post things.

The last time I did use a smiley somebody took it the wrong way :-(
#21
I voted cold because it was too expensive and IMHO Vista Home basic is a total waste. no offence intended to the OP ;-)
#22
Voting cold is an important feature imo. If the deal is easily beatable elsewhere then it should be voted ice cold, voters should leave a reason however.
The point of this site is to find the cheapest deals possible that may be available.
There is no reason to vote hot just because members are new or don't understand the search function.

I know this may sound unfriendly but I use this site to save money not to make friends.

It makes it harder to find the best deals quickly when the site is flooded with overpriced dross.

Rant over.

New members may get cold votes for crappy deals but its a learning curve, so keep searching for that gem. It will be greatly apprecaited if you find the holy grail of hotukdeals.:-D

i guess if the item is available elswhere cheaper it should be voted cold or others, who may not know its worth may beleive its a good price and purchase it, wasting money! if its cold they can then see its not the best price for the item and look elsewhere for it :)

its not a slating for the poster :)
[admin]#24
Yes exactly loupomm and spudgun - bad deals should be voted cold if it's a poor price that's why it's there. As spudgun says it's not about making friends it's about finding good deals. Now saying that I would also say that if you vote cold and kindly/constructively point out the better deal to the poster they should be nothing but thankful as you've saved them some £££ too. I think new posters may make mistakes but if they're shown how to find better deals and given the support to do so their appetite for finding a good one will only grow. That's how we have such a great community today and that's how we'll get more new members helping out and finding bargains for us all :)

Well said, my thoughts exactly.

i got voted cold for one of my deals and it was a freebie for a choc bar. its still been voted cold after a week but i can see why they have had a deal with the same company but nobody got anything just aload of spam. although we are new to this theres alot of pensioners on here too.:giggle: and they know what they are doing and we will learn.:-D
#27
its not really that fair to vote something cold just because it isnt something your interested in. i always vote hot if it seems good regardless of wether im going to go for it or not.
but then if its genuinely cr*p, then cold is useful, it lets others know not to buy.

Awww... you can still post smileys in Quick-Post, especially if you learn the codes!! :)

I use smileys all the time. :giggle: Pretty much every post.

Why use words when a little yellow man can sum it all up for you?
