Have I broken something?

I stood up to walk off on Monday evening and stood barefoot on the back of a leather shoe, pain was awful. Now the ball, joint bit just under my big toe is swollen and painful and black and has been since Monday. I find myself walking slightly on the side of my foot to not put weight down on it and I can only do this when I have a shoe on, without a shoe on I can't put any weight on my foot at all. Do you think its just bruised and I should wait it out or should I bother getting an xray. I just don't fancy a 5 or 6 hour wait in casualty for nothing.

If you're in doubt, get it checked out.

Reagrdless of the wait, it could get a lot worse and then you might regret not going to the hospital.

Might be better to let your own doctor have a look - should be a shorter wait.
Yeah thanks, I might see the doctor. I'd feel like I was wasting my time and the hospitals if I sat in casualty. If I could even get my hands on a set of crutches just to keep my weight off it for a few more days to give it a chance for the swelling to go down.
Yeah, wait a few days. Maybe your toe will fall off by itself. Doctors are far too keen on amputation in my view.
lol - I'm so clumsy that if they cut off every bit that I have broken or damaged over the years there would be nothing left!

Last time I went to casualty I had to wait 5.5 hours then they sent me home to come back in 3 days and then I had to sit 6 hours the next time before they decided I had a blood clot which needed treatment and then they left me all night and the day after they couldn't find their ultrasound machine and then they sent me home a few hours later saying that they had left it too long to do anything about it and I'd have to wait till the pain and clot dispersed by itself so you can see why I'm not keen
