Have tin cans changed?

We have four tin openers (new one bought today) ranging from the cheap to expensive - but none of them will open tins correctly. We have one that is supposed to slice the top off, it used to work, but it no longer grips lip of some tins. Have tin can manufacturers changed something?

Now where do I put my angle grinder!!?

I'm trying to track down one of those old fashioned ones with the sharp point - they used to work ok, though maybe a little dangerous for some.

How much does an aluminium of beer cost?

I got this one after a series of encounters with Fray Bentos pies. This opener just looks at them, sniggers to itself then proceeds to decimate it :D

Seriously, it opens everything.

I have both types - the expensive one of the bunch opens from the side, but no longer works on most cans.

A can of beer, or a bottle of beer. Who asks for a tin of beer? XXXXing Australians?

I think can openers are now deliberately made less sharp so more will be sold.

Just like the razor blades supplied with new razors that are thicker & remain sharper for longer.

The replacement blades are not as wide & become blunt quicker so that the manufacturers make more revenue.
