Its hearsay though, even if it happens you are relying on a rumour.
#3
Well this isn't rumour...

Wal-Mart to officially discontinue HD DVD sales by June

And thats got what to do with the rumour? Even if stores sell badly but you are automatically saying that x=y
#5
Oh no not again!

Well if HD is truly gone I dare say the 7 out of 10 owners who had no intention of leaving DVD will rise to 8 or 9 out of 10 due to BR being overpriced and not exactly 'futureproof' as yet:p

Lol yeah just felt like OP is a fanboy finding any way to show how inferior HDDVD is

You are not alone..

The PlayStation 3 has sold over one million units in the UK.
The console was released in the UK on March 23 last year, meaning it has reached the milestone quicker than the PlayStation 2, which took 50 weeks and Microsoft's Xbox 360 which took 60 weeks.
Last week, Electronic Arts stated that it expects the PS3 to outsell the Xbox 360 this year, clocking up between 5 and 6 million units in Europe and up to another 5.5 million units in North America.

Is there some kind of auto-response to the characters 'H', 'D' and 'V' on this forum that instantly replies 'P', 'S' and '3'?

lol

N20Y1D is a Sony rep, I thought we wasn't allowed to self promote? Yet every thread I read he is trying to shift some PS3s...
#14
As much as it pains me to say this, but it has been confirmed today that Toshiba have given up!

Here

It's been pretty clear since Warner Bros dropped HD-DVD that HD-DVD was not going to be able to keep competing with Blu-ray. The main task for Sony now that the format war is over is to try and get people to buy Blu-rays over DVDs.

Sony have to secure the BlueRay format before they can even think of DVDs. Then there is the case of downloads too which are already 8to1 against BlueRay.

With no BlueRay standard and several companies in the position to take a large slice of royalties, means we are now going to have to sit through BlueRay vs BlueRay.

So which do you buy? Sony vs Panasonic? v1 vs v3? LG vs Toshiba?.. Civil War baby :w00t:

Before shifting over, I'll wait until they've finished with the updates etc

Or at least future proofed the players.

Why does every fool on this site seem to think this? I wish HD-DVD had won. I really do because I don't like Sony and don't think BR brings anything new to the party.

Stop ****ing a dead horse. HD-DVD will be dead soon. Get over it and don't complain when you can't buy new HD-DVD movies.....

Nothing is futureproof. VHS wasn't futureproof and neither is/was DVD and the same will happen with Bluray. Show me another high def format that is as popular and well supported as Bluray?

Actually it wasn't intended for you, just a general expression of boredom at how every thread that mentions HD-DVD gets overrun with gloating nerds. It's so dull now.

I take it that was a joke? You tell the BR 1.0 brigade how well supported THEY are in all this. As for being 'popular' the figures say it all, what is it? 3/4% to DVD's 96/97% overall share in the film sell through market? Well popular. Carry on dreaming, both formats are a failure. DVD is king:-D

Oh by the way I think you'll find downloaded hi def material is MUCH more popular (but again, I have no interest in that either).

Why does that make someone a nerd? Back a year ago I'd have said HD-DVD was a shoe in for the win. Bluray won. Anyone who is seen to rubbish the "hot" deals on HD DVD players on this site gets called a nerd. Why?

You could probably order a high def DVD and have it delivered quicker in this country than you could download it off the web with 95% of people's internet connections.
#30
YAY!! BLEW RAY FAW DE WIN.

I have a bluray player [ps3]
I dont care, I don't actually see much of a difference.

I think if HD-DVD flops, which it probably will, microsoft should exchange all the drives for the bluray drive.

not sure about the others..

So at this point in time high def downloads at least in the UK aren't really a force in the retail market.

Yep right again. Hi def downloads are generally 'free', if not legal, so retail doesn't enter into it. That's what gives them the upper hand over BR, nobody minds waiting for a freebie. Only disadvantage is the size. It's a shame the voting still doesn't work on here or we could do a poll to see how many HUKD users intend to buy a BR player:thinking:

Believe it or not, the whole world isn't waitingfor the UK download speeds to improve.

Countries like Japan and South Korea lead the world, they have the speeds and as such the UK will have to step it's game up with regards to bandwidth. They're not going to make hardware and discs especially for one country, because they're not ready yet.

Wow. And there I was thinking the UK was the only country in the world :whistling:

Of course there are better places for broadband in the world. But look at the UK, US and Australia. Some fairly big markets. None of them have reliable high speed connections across the majority of the population and this means that people will be happy to do what they've always done and go into a store or go online and buy physical media and know that regardless of whether their internet goes down of their HDD fails or they're PC crashes... that the disc will go into a player and just work nice and easy :)

I'm calling you a fool because you're making an assumption in calling the OP a fanboi when he's pretty much just reporting the news..

Not having a HD-TV I'm not hugely bothered about HD content at the moment but it's good to know there's a victor and while I wish it was HD-DVD sadly it's not.

lmao downloadable content? the future!? I dont think so Tim

our speeds are not nearly good enough also dont forget ISPs like to throttle bandwidth for heavy usage also dont forget people like to actually own stuff they can collect/take round their friends house etc

sure I would rent a goldie oldie for nostalgia online but thats it.....

I agree with you to some extent as I still buy DVD's BUT I don't think the physical object is as important to people as it used to be thanks to the Ipod culture etc. We are both entering the age of the dinosaur mate ;-)

Also storing 200 films on a hard disk takes a lot less space than storing 200 DVD's on a shelf. The shelf full of DVD's does look nice, but its one hell of a dust trap

As one of the few people on this forum who will be on a true unlimited broadband connection I agree that most people will have difficulty downloading 1 HD movie a month without hitting their download limit.
