Evenin all,

I seem to have a problem with two HD-Dvd drives that I purchased from TXMaxx last week. I power the unit on and insert a disk. The drive opens fine, disk in then closes fine. After about a second or two, the drive opens by about a Centimetre. This problem happens on both drives. Even with no disk in, I open and close and it does the same.

The green light stays on when the drive is open, then starts blinking as it closes. Once closed and re-opened by two centimetres it continues to flash.

I've managed to install the drive fine on both my laptop and my XBox 360, but obviously it doesn't play any disks.

I can push it shut but it wont read any disks. What's the chances of BOTH being faulty?

Just to add, When the drives are connected to the Xbox (one at a time), the Hd-DVD option on the dashboard says opening all the time. So basically, you open the drive, insert disk, close drive, the drive opens itself by a few centimetres and the dash says 'opening'.

This happens on two drives

Was away to send the second drive to my brother, but it looks like they are both knackered. Need to install XP on a Dell Mini urgently. Is there something similar to disk mode for the PC?

I'm wondering if they were dropped together or something when they were on route to the shelf, it is odd that both drives do this as it's not something I've seen on an Xbox HD DVD drive.

May be a daft question but are you using it lay flat or stood up on its side ?

I'm using them lay flat. Everything was sealed and mint when I bought them. I've installed the disk that came with them, and everything installed fine. Could it be a power issue with the two pin plug?

I can't find any information on this anywhere. Sounds like they are both broken

I doubt it, the figure of eight power lead is just a power lead and nothing more - the actual handling of the power is done by the power adapter itself. If the lead was bad you wouldn't get any power at all to the device, however as you're getting power ok then that's clearly not the case. I do think both devices are broken, it sounds more like physical damage rather than an inherent fault of the drive - it seems possible that someone stocking the shelves or in the warehouse has dropped both of them.
