Just curious, how many of you HD-DVD owners (inc Xbox add on) will be upgrading to a Blu Ray player or PS3?

This is actually a good question saint, pretty sure there won't be many as the main reason for buying into HD DVD was its price....

Im not going to rush out and buy a blu ray player (ps3) cos theres still plenty of films I want to get on hd dvd.

It is a good question, but I give it until post number 10-11 before it becomes another fanboy squabble.

Most likely  On the plus side though, at least its not a deal that's going to be trashed by all that BS;-)

All this debate about Blu-ray and HD has got me wondering what equipment I actually own now :-D

I've got a PS3, which is Blu-ray, obviously, but a few months ago, I bought a Sony RDR GX350 DVD recorder at a bargain price. I bought it at the time because I wanted a decent recorder, but since this whole debate, am actually wondering if it supports HD dvd's? It says it upscales to 1080p, so is that as good as having a HD player? :? Not that I'm bothered really, but just interested incase I see any bargain HD dvd's

Well with our replies, I will now say it's safe to say that my prediction is a bit short, can I change it to post 17-18?

The OP has added the necessary ingredients that ensures a fanboy slap-fest.

In the OP/Title we have the words PS3, Blu-ray, Xbox and HD-DVD, let the battle commence. :viking:

I already own a blu ray player so will carry on buying blu but also buying a load of cheap hd dvds when i see em

Not yet,if they bring a blu-ray addon for the 360 i might.
But in the mean time normal DVD is okay on my TV

What do you guys think is best, HD DVD or BLUE-RAY? :p Seriously, did you know that BETAMAX, yes you read that correctly,is still used in the "industry" even today. I also still use my
mini-disc player  I think it is good to have choices and personally,I don't let fashion,or other peoples opinions decide what I want, what I like. Obviously you maybe see something on TV or read an article that informs you of "new technology" in the first place, but if you go to a shop and try it,borrow a mate's or even buy one and don't like it,all the "this is better than that because..." arguments don't matter a jot if you don't like it. Who cares what's the biggest, what's the best. I got a Nokia N95 on it's UK release date. Did I have "the best phone in the world" at that time. Yes,I probably did,but how long does it take until the next "Best" comes out. We are turning in to Japan who throw out all their "stuff" just because the newer model maybe has the on/off button in green,or blue,or invisible! We are seriously *ucke* if we carry on like this. Landfills, pollution. Can you believe that their are Billions, yes, you read that correctly,BILLIONS of people without access to fresh water!! I mean WTF. We need to check ourselves before we wreck ourselves! word! :w00t:

I bet Ice Cube didn't expect his lyrics to be used in this manner. :-D

Yes the later betamax's were fantastic, they were very small and quality far outdid VHS.

I still own my betamax, but its at my parents and hasnt been used in years

Depends if Sony tighten up on region restrictions. The one major plus HD-DVD had was the lack of region locks.

Region restriction has nothing to do with Sony, it is up to the studios.

Yes and no. Bluray has region rstriction built in. HD-DVD does not.

Which gives control to the studios, if they want region free, then its region free.

Cant say I was particularly interested in either format, but favoured HD-DVD. I'm more than happy with SDVD and HD content off the net and will shortly be buying a Satellite HD receiver (non $ky) so really dont have the need for BR.

Sony might be rejoicing that Toshiba is dropping HD-DVD, but it doesnt really mean they won the war if nobody is buying BR - and the take up is pretty poor when you compare it with SDVD when that first started. (I used to buy at least 1 or 2 films per week - normally R1.) It wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if SDVD outlived BR.
#24
I planned on adding a Blu-ray player anyways, but still waiting for the prices to drop...
#25
Nope, I won't ! Well not until it gets a shed lot cheaper. Just ordered one of the Toshiba HD Dvd players, that'll do for a couple of years when hopefully Blu-Ray will either have become to the format to own or not, I can then decide if I really want one. My opinion is that it'll eventually go to downloads, just like the music has...
#26
I'll wait till the best format wins......................oops sorry it lost......................................guess I'll have to stick with Hd dvd (region free thingy) until bluray sorts itself out with region coding, and a player that is better than the toshiba Hd dvd player...........could be a long waithttp://www.wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/shrug.gif
I do own a blue* ray player and It's not as good as the Tosh:?
#27
Can we just lock all this crapola about hd-dvd v blu ray as im sick of it now
