HD on Freeview

Well looks like they have bowed to the pressure to roll out HD on freeview and for now going with the DVB-T2 standard as used elsewhere around the world. So we should all be watching the Olympics in HD! (maybe not channel islands)

See link below.

The good points is that there are loads of boxes that can be made available from manufactures in a short space of time and good news for people with playTV as long as Sony get the software sorted.

Bad points are that there will be only 4 channels. One will be BBC one ITV and C4. The last one is being looked at and maybe C4 for Film4HD or channel 5.

So is that all for freeview HD. Well seems not. This seems a stop gap as discussions continued on the new standard to use h264 and DD+.

I was part of the Terrestrial HD Trial BBC/ITV/CH4 over 2006 World cup period. It was absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed every game in HD.

I dont know whether the same HD Box (Humax) could still be used to receive the channels mentioned above once this service starts later this year.

Hopefully this will shame Virgin into upgrading their dire HD availability as well ???

Yes if you still have your HD-7000 should work fine. I thought they were all collected in. Or anybody with one from this years tests. (HDCI-200T)

At the moment all the channels are contacted to other providers so the BBC is the only option. ITV and channel4 will be available next year.

VM are already getting more hd channels. We just have to wait a bit longer for them.

Like what? The only thing they could offer at the moment is Virgin1 in HD which never has anything worth watching anyway.

If I could have any channel in HD it would be satanta as the pics always rubbish.

Not really, I was clealy told at the time I recieved the HD7000 I would not have to return it. The signals did come until December 2006 and since then its just gathering dust. But really I would love it if its useful once again. I remember checking the price of one of those on the internet and it was around £399.

Yes so you will be able to blow off the dust and get it working again. I expect the box's to be around the £100 mark otherwise nobody will bother.

Nah. From what you are saying, you're referring to the Terrestrial trials. That cant be used to get Satellite. It will however be fine once they restart HD on Terrestrial - which I'm sure I read was going to be next year.

Not heard anything confirmed about sky1, discovery stories have been floating around for a year now and ITV should start in June.

Haha.... Major confusion!!!!!

I bought a HD receiver for my PC to pickup those trials. They packed them in about a month after I bought it! Typical! Haven't used it since!
