i have ps3 hdmi lead and hd tv and i was looking for a hd dvd player to buy online, but in a review online for the hd dvd players it was saying about if hd or blu ray was best, and it said you can play both discs on a ps3, so i went out and bought a few hd dvds and they wont play and the shop wont take them back, i was wondering if i needed some sort of extra equipment to enable the hd dvds to play on the ps3.

You have HD DVDs. PS3 will only play Blu-ray HD DVDs.
As far as i know there is no way of playing HD DVDs on a ps3 with extra equipment. Sorry x

Best thing to do is buy an XBOX HD DVD Player (about £18) and hook it up to your PC. Or try and sell the HD DVDs and buy Blu Rays

fwiw, I found trying to play HD DVD's through my pc with the xbox 360 thing an absolute pain in the a$$, after all the hassle of finding and downloading the old software (the new one no longer supports hd dvd) it was very juddery through my few month old Dell PC, chucked the lot with the HD DVD's I got in to the back of a cupboard with the betamax. You've got an HD TV and PS3, get yourself the films on blu ray thats what I'm doing now. Just my 2 pence of course.

I found using the drive with a PC a pain in the neck as well, I'd only buy it for use with an Xbox where it does work well.

you pc or laptop will have to have a good spec to run an xbox360 hd-dvd drive
also you need windvd ultra 7.2 i think it is which costs £100 plus other software
mate of mine sourced all the software on cdr for £10
try downloading blueray/hddvd advisor from here
it will tell you if your pc is up to spec

Setting the hd dvd drive up on the pc was so easy. Not sure why you lot were having problems. Good spec pc, vista, and a working version of power dvd is all you need. Course xp works but that requires more hassle than its worth.
