the only difference between a hdmi cable and the 1 u get is where u plug it in on the tv

just put it to hdtv and u will be good

HDMI cables are completely different.

The cable in the console is composite [or component, i dunno]

HDMI [High definition media interface] its optical..

So HDMI Will show a much better picture.

what aload of rubbish
1080p is 1080p whether its through componant or hdmi
you couldnt tell the difference between the picture output if you put them side by side

unless the 360 comes with a hdmi cable there is no need to buy 1

the component cable isnt 1080p...

if you correctly remember the 360 is only 1080p THROUGH HDMI...

Thats WHY they added the HDMI port, why would they waste MORE money to add something to the console that it can ALREADY do?

sorry your right i forgot that only having a 1080i tv lol

you can only get 1080p through hdmi and vga

but if you havent got a 1080p tv just stick with the componant cable

Pretty sure that's not the case, I've had my Xbox running through component at 1080p when my brother swiped my hdmi cable however I believe there's quite a few TVs out there that won't take a 1080p signal over component but they will over hdmi. It can run at 1080p over vga as well.

Component is limited in its DVD upscaling ability and HD DVD playback which is 480p and 1080i respectively.

To my eye the component signal didn't look as good as hdmi, normally I don't find much difference between the two but I don't know how good the shielding is on the Xbox component cable. I prefer hdmi anyway, the single cable is a lot more convenient than the rash of cables the component one consists of and TVs only ever seem to have one component whereas my current one has three hdmi.

The Premium/Pro and Elite come with a combined component/composite cable with the switch to choose between composite (pretty much the poorest quality signal) and component (HD) - both video standards use the same audio connectors. The Core/Arcade versions come with a composite only cable.

HDMI is not optical, it's a digital standard.

I thought the elite came with a HDMI cable

My Elite came with an HDMI cable and the componant leads.

I agree with John - 1080p is possible over componant - if your tv accepts it! - Mine doesn't - hence I upgraded from my pro to an elite!

It does, the 'midrange' Pro which has hdmi doesn't come with an hdmi cable.
