How will an amp sound better with an HDMI for PS3 etc? Mine takes a coaxial cable and surely the sound cant be that greatly improved if in dolby digital 6.1? can it?

As they are both digital media probably no difference at all but when the protected films start appearing it will probably only be possible to hear thru the hdmi interface

Just back from an electronics specialist because this was playin on my mind. As far as anyone was concerned digital output is exactly that therefore unless everyone is being forced to upgrade drastically all home entertainment equipment then we should be fine for some number of years........Phew.:-D

cool but perhaps a better question and one i don't know the answer too is
if hdmi+hdcp= protected output and you have an hdmi socket from dvdplayer/htpc/sky3000+ box to tv,, how are you going to get the sound back to your amp if you only have 1 hdmi socket on your tv?

Can you not just get a multi HDMI port or two? irritating having to switch obviously but needs must!

quote so u switch to output on your amp and hey presto no picture on tv, lol this will all be very interesting when it happens
