Healthiest way to tan

Well basically i have never had a tan before, i have fair skin and have burnt in the past from the sun but have never really gone brown. I know there is not healthy way to tan, apart from maybe fake tan but i'm male so that's not an option :). So i was wondering what is the healthiest (or least unhealthy) way to tan, has anybody got any good tips or methods? My sister and dad can get a tan, but they have had a lot more exposure to the sun in the past than me. I'm going on holiday in July as well with my GF who can get really brown tan, she rubs it in a bit because i'm pale the cheeky devil, so i also want to show her i can too :D

The best way to tan is year-round. If you only go out in the summer and expect a tan with a few hours of hardcore sunbathing, it's just not going to happen. My parents both sit in the garden whenever they can and they have amazing tans.

well i use the sunbeds not safe but does the job for me ......

if you say you have fair skin, then you are probably skin type 1 or 2. and will probably have a similar tan type your whole life. the best way to optimize this is to use a high sun cream factor 30+ and to sunbathe say 20-30 mins at a time.
a lot of people think that just sittiing in the sun without sun cream on might burn but will give a good tan, this is so wrong (and dangerous) and will just make you go red (brown for a week or so) and then white. if you use high factor sun cream and sunbath gradually you will get a tan.

The sun has now been proved to be dangerous along with sunbeds.

The best way now is to get sprayed...

Especially for your fair skin...

also general skin care i.e. mosturize daily

sunbeds aren't safe but if you start going once or twice a week for a few mins each session about 6 weeks before you go on hols it will build up your exposure to sun. also use a high factor sun cream and after sun to moisturise well and make sure your skin isn't dry. do not use any oil products or you will fry.

I tan very easily so I don't have to put in great efforts to tan, but I do HATE it when i'm pale. I look all wrong and ill, and it really doesn't suit me at all!

btw i've just slapped on loads of fake tan - then saw this - how apt...

oooooooo i hate being pale i feel much better with a bit of colour

I know people say it is bad but i use stand up tanning cabins a couple of times a week at this time of year just to start off my tan and get my skin used to the sun. That way I find that once it is summer proper my skin tans really well.

Hope that helps!

I must admit I have used sunbeds particulalry in the winter - It really helps with my mood and as a bonus, it means I'll be the only one who doesn't burn when we get caught on that first surprising day of sun no one planned for.

Stay in if possible and only go out if it is 100% necessary - and if you have to go out, cover yourself in clothing and on any exposed skin use factor 50 sun cream at all times, even when it's snowing

I'm feeling so homoerotic right now.

I'm fair skinned & used to burn, but then I did as chocolatieclaire suggests - short regular spells on a sun bed, lots of moisturiser, & a high factor when out in the sun.

tanning is actually bad for you
although it looks nice i believe its actually ur cells breaking down or something, im sure ive read it somewhere but cant quote

Did you lot know that in asian countries, they are obsessed with having white skin!!!!!
The shops mostly sell skin whitening products
They find it strange that we want to be brown. :?

yep was talkin about it to a friend
asians wanna be white while caucasians wanna be brown! its like just be happy with yourself darn!!
edit : where can i get this whitening cream

last year i went on in a sun booth for a few tiles as im so pale skinned, never a chuffin gain, think it aged my skin by about 10 year, and never even looked any browner than when i started

I don't understand why a bloke feels he can't put a fake tan on? Its not a problem for blokes to use fake tan! I put some one my boyfriend once when he came home from his tour of Iraq. Where he had to have his uniform on it had left white marks so we touched them up with fake tan.
I'm really pale as I'm anaemic so I never have any colour but I like that, so many people try to tan that I look different by being pale! The only downside is that a tan does cover skin imperfections better!

Tans can be nice but the funniest thing for me is the orange women (sometimes men) who think they look good when they've just been tango'd.

Especially when they show off the midriff thats all saggy and stretched. ha ha, giggling at the thought.

sunbeds dont build up any resistance to the sun like a normal tan would. Not safe imo
