MP3 album downloads on Amazon for just 29p after pricing gaffe

Bargain hunters flooded the website of online store Amazon yesterday after a pricing gaffe saw it wrongly sell entire MP3 album downloads for just 29p.

Customers logged on to the site in droves after hearing that albums often sold at £7.99 were mistakenly being offered with more than a 95 per cent discount.

Many shoppers, tipped off by consumer websites, went on a shopping spree buying scores of cheap downloads, before Amazon realised the blunder.

Indeed! Forget paying 29p an album when you can get anything for free (I'm pretty sure someone ordered about 80 albums). Still, thats the difference between a daytime and a nighttime deal - but at least we know which one was better!

What the heck is going on at Amazon though? They must have lost thousands on the free deal and the same on the 29p deal!

LOL! I had about 36 myself, Gavin says he did 80 lol!

I think its either one or two disgruntled employees, or theyre being hacked in some way or another. Could be poor SQL coding which is whats making it easy to damage the code and mess things up.

Or maybe theyre working on the coding and while theyre doing that something got mistyped, a letter or a number lol and it caused problems with the pricing database?>

A £10 promotion is more than an error on the pricing database (its the sort of thing you can't imagine could be implemented without a high-management level of control on a site as massive as Amazon), and neither is lots of 29p deals... I'd almost consider it could be a publicity stunt - except for the unusual time of the deal - and an effort to get people to download the software - but its definitely a bit weird to have two deals that seem obvious errors and yet are quite different in type so close together from such a big retailer. Keep an eye out for the next monumental balls up/deliberate stunt (delete as applicable!)
