Helium Balloons off eBay

I bought some Helium Balloons off eBay as its my sons birthday today and tomorrow we got a hall booked for a party. Anyway I bought a box of balloons, and the helium gas off there,so today we test it and despite filling 1 and knotting it,it goes down after about 10mins. So we try another balloon and tie the knot several times, its very tight and it lasts about 1 hr!

It says on the instructions inside that they last around 5 hrs.

My partner works in a shop and when they need them for various promotions,he usually the one who fills the balloons and they been fine at work for him and lasted all day and still mid air next day,so its not the case of we not doing it right.Birthdays closed down here ages ago and there was no where else to buy them from here hence I went to eBay.

I didn't want them in 1st place as every kids party I've dropped my children off to which sometimes I stay they only buy the regular balloons and said we should done that in 1st place but it was my partners idea on getting them.

Just having my rant but yeh any1 wanting to buy any helium balloons, buy from a shop cos least you can take them back easier if no good.

I have contacted the seller, told them they are no good and I will be leaving negative feedback Monday if they not refunded. I will probably go through Paypal to try and get my money back, about £25 in all,not a great deal of cash but not the point.

On a another note though...............go to your local florists and see if they'll inflate them for you for a small charge as they always have helium.

Yeh but its true its no good, you leave feedback based on the item,if its as described,eBay even have a 5 star thing now where you judge the transaction on various thinsg such as item accurtaely described, fair P&P costs seller commuincation.

I'm just mad about it,the balloons must be pants quality.

I've told themI'm not going waste my time at inflating them and they need to arrange a courier for them to go back if they want them back but I want my money back, and will be leaving Neg feedback on Monday if not resolved.Thats long enough, people who sell on there tend to go online there everyday,if they away on holiday than they should have a message up in eBay shop. Besides I called too and no answer, they should say if calls are not going be answered over phone.

Don't think anything wrong with helium, probably quality of the balloons, hell I don't know a thing about this sort of thing all i know is they they don't stay up for long, and told them i wnat my money back cos I ain't happy with them. They got till Monday or neg getting left for poor quality goods,I don't sell rubbish on there so I don't expect to buy rubbish myself.
£25 I'll get over it,its probably 1 of the most expensive items I've bought on there actually cos you gotta be prepared to get bit once in a while when dealing with eBay.

Could it be the balloons where not helium quality?

There are different qualities of balloons on the market. Usually they state on the packet "air fill only" if not suitable for helium.

They should easily last 7-10 hours, 24 if you put a chemical called hi-float in them.

I'm assuming they where latex not mylar balloons?

Its true the cold does make them deflate slightly, but once they go into a warm room they will go back to the original blown up size.

Helium is a very small molecule and will escape from a poor quality balloon very easilyhttp://www.xs4all.nl/~ernstmul/images/msnbonus/baloon.gif

I'm not sure what type of balloons they are but I bought the thing as a whole package. Yeh on instructions it says lasts between 5 - 7 hrs I think I read.We expected to fill them just before the part started as we got the hall to set for 45mins prior to party starting then expected them to last for the 2 hrs party plus for children to take some home at end and last for little longer.
Yeh I have had the foil balloons that you can get in some card shops and like off the vendors selling them in fairs etc and they have lasted like a few days,I've seen them like floating mid air even into a week later.

Its really warm in my living room,I'm pretty sure we doing nothing wrong as my partner filled helium balloons at work,at the parties they have or for various promotions. All I can put this down to is poor quality balloons.

what type of nozzle is it? i work @ pizza hut and we have 2 fill up balloons and we have a hole on the nozzle between the the part where the balloon clamps on and the gas canister. if that hole is left exposed which it is supposed to it deflates very quickly as it, but if you use your fingers to cover up the hole while its inflating it stays up for much longer

Still all the sandwiches and other fresh stuff to sort in the morning.
I'm sure the seller will request the item back and refund,if not I'll get over it,I didn't want the helium balloons in 1st place,my partners idea - growl.

The party went quite well, the kids enjoyed themselves, although only 3 turned up.
I could have had a party in house or garden if only 3 was going turn up.I wasted £22 on room hire, then £25 on helium balloons that are no good and waiting to sort out.My son had a b'day cake yesterday & then we bought 1 for the actual party so that extra cake was £5 drain so you could say nearly £50 wasted there.
We didn't do a great deal of food, kids didn't really eat the sandwiches, did egg and cheese ones ( we veggie ) but they ate all the choc sweets cakes etc.We had pass the parcel, the only girl who turned up won a 250g bar of choc.We had musical chairs too,we had music,we took the bubble machine,my son enjoyed it which was main thing,he didn't seem bothered that only 3 others turned up.It was me there, his Dad,his sister whos 4 and my Mum turned up and his other nans plus his Dads friend came too.
It was ok but I don't think we have another one as not enough came :-(
Would been nice if like 6 or so come.

Oh, well as long as your son had a good time that's the main thing.

I've had parties over the years for my two both in halls etc. and at home and I must admit the ones I have the fondest memories of are the home ones.

I can remember making a "pin the bow tie on Mr. Blobby game" for my youngest, and a Spice Girls party for my eldest, which where held at our house. :giggle: :giggle:

I'm glad its over and done with now.
