How do I get access to the electoral register? Got to track somebody down urgently and haven't a clue where to start......

Also if anybody's got any other tips (192.com has proven to be useless) then please share.

Thanks.

That looked promising till I saw this..

The electoral Roll Search facility is on its way, thank you for being so patient.
To get access to the information, were going to require some information from you.
Pre register now and we will e-mail you when it's live!

My problem is I don't know where they are at all. I was divorced in 2001 and it's my ex i'm trying to track as her dozy solicitors put a charge on my house that I need to get removed. First I heard about it was when the HIP report came back:-(

If I knew where to go to see the electoral register i'd go search it cover to cover. But then I might not get anywhere as she could have remarried etc... Nightmare.

Bebo/facebook/myspace? -Just a thought....

Ring up and ask your local council where they keep the register, they have to keep a copy for access by anyone.

For example I know that in Sheffield it is kept in the central library.

Can't you contact the solicitors?

I thought she would have a right to put a charge on the house, how are you going to get it removed?

It's very complicated mate and her solicitors shut up shop years ago. My solicitor has traced the current holder of their records through the law society, but they still really need to track here down.

A quick look at mininova shows that UK Info Disc Pro v11 is available to DL if that's any help

that's exactly what my solicitor asked. And the answer, no. Wish I did as I could get this sorted easily in that situation as we parted quite amicably.
#24
Blimey she your ex wife and you never ever kept in touch of her whereabouts despite you parting amicably.
I'd thought she like let you know where she was moving to etc.

Surely you can remember some of their names and track them down? Using 192 or facebook or something? They can't all have changed their names!!!

I assume once you get the charge removed it's not going to be amicable?

I've got no problem with her at all mate and that's the gods honest. I just don't want anything to do with her and if I posted the reason for the divorce you would understand why. As for her friends names, I never really got on with them and if I did it would have just been a first name thing. It's been so long I can't even remember her mums name tbh. Basically it was all something I wanted to forget, and unfortunately I succeeded.

as you have found her on friends reunited why not try and contact a few people from her school or see if there is a brother or sister that can be contacted.drop a few emails here and there and something should turn upor someone may give you some info too help you on the way such as her mothers name etc.

Cheers to all who offered suggestions. Ascottishbloke managed to get me an address for her sister and I 'obtained' ID11 and by doing a neighbour search I managed to get her mums address. Luckily her name isn't that common 'Yvonne', so as soon as I saw it I remembered. I knew there was a V in there somewhere

So now I wait to see what files my solicitor can dig up, if they can't find anything (they said the files are likely destroyed by now), i'll just have to go a visiting......

Just had a letter from my solicitor. Her solicitor said all I have to do is file for removal at the land registry and enclose my decree absolute. So looks like I don't have to unearth things that are best left buried :)

The one thing I will say about all this though... People moan about the fact you need to get a HIP report to sell a house, if it was still done in the old way I wouldn't have found out about all this till the last minute as it would be the buyers solicitors who had the land registry search paperwork.....:whistling:
