How easy is it to claim from Royal Mail? Basically I sold an item on here via first class recorded and posted it on the 05/01/10. Still hasnt arrived and the website states its processing.. The status hasnt changed since the 5th.

Obviously ill have to refund the buyer as its not his fault at all, But is there a timescale for me to claim with RM? Ive never had a recorded item lost and this whole weather situation made it worse. I dont wanna be outta twice although i think ill have to be

Any help would be appreciated :)

There is a form on the Royal Mail website (try the postoffice one as well) it will outline the criteria that needs to be met in order to submit a claim.

You will get your money back - no problem. You have to wait a while before Royal Mail considers it lost (maybe 3 or 4 weeks). If you go to the Royal Mail site it is all on there.

Will they give me back the value of the item? And will they deffo pay out? I know the max is £39 (i think)

do you have proof of the cost of the item and is it on their prohibited items/not covered items list?

I dont have proof im afraid. Only what it sold for on here. But then i dont think I could use that cos i could just find anything with a value of £39 or so. It was a Nintendo DS. Ill check their list.

Never had to claim on a recorded item (other than special delivery), but chances are it will show up within the next weeks as things rarely go missing when recorded - typically they are severely delayed due to misrouting.

Thats been experience from a good few hundred sent anyway,

It may even be that the lazy postman didnt bother trying to deliver, but also forgot to register a delivery attempt. If so, it will be sitting at the depot until someone decides to RTS it (you did put a return address on, right?)

If you do refund/replace, be prepared for it to show up as delivered the very next day :p

As proof of value/ sale, you could possibly print out your transaction that occurred here and send it along with the claims form?...

I sent out a DSi on ebay and sent it recorded instead of Special Delivery... it had until friday to arrive or I'm coughing up £120... flippin royal mail

Why not just submit a receipt for something else you purchased recently (xmas gift)? If they really have lost it, they wont be able to question its contents.

Of course, make sure the items weight matches up!

Im so rubbish that i never even thought of putting my address details on the back. I assumed being recorded, it would get there anyway! how wrong was i?

Ill print that out actually, and maybe a copy of my bank statement showing the payment made?
