It may sound stupid but alcohol?

This is going to cost! contact a specialist cleaning company as they will use detergents that are far more suited to the task and should leave it clean

Or petrol, as this will thin it down.

Best solution is to pay for a wet-vac professionally done ASAP.

strip as much carpet and upholstery out as possible. Blot out as much spillage as possible with something absorbant (dont try to wash out yet as all you will do is spread the oil soaked into the upholstery further) Your best bet is something like washing up liquid just remember to try and rinse it out as much as poss when you think your done as washing up liquid has a very high salt content and may leave heavy water marks.

Steam cleaner hand held or wet vac would be better, oil is a pain as its messy and the wet vac if you use one will need a damn good clean when your done.

DO NOT USE A SOLVENT IF ITS A BIG SPILL!

Thanks for everyone's help I tried last night with the washing up liquid and my Bissell to suck up as much as poss, but I was wondering if there is any thing I can use like a strong degreaser?

I noticed they use sand at the petrol stations if thats any help.... If you spilt red wine i could have helped you, i would have told you to clean it with white wine!

Try to scrape/soak most of it out with kitchen roll or a rag and deal with the rest using fairy liquid and hot water.

good luck, sounds like a nightmare

Problem is you will risk ruining the upholstery.

Seriously best thing to use is fairy liquid and very very very hot water wet vac and repeat.
