#3

#4

It's not just the hard drive, the 40GB model has no backwards compatibility, no front USB ports, no SACD support and no card readers.

and 80GB isnt out until June and i want/need something to play GTA 4 on
#7
If you import the 80GB one though then you will most likely have to pay import tax on it.

I have a 60GB Chinese one though, you can buy NTSC consoles in the UK if you look around.
#8
how much did you pay if you dont mind?
#9
if you want to watch dvds, play ps2 games etc then you best getting a pal version because the ps3 is only region free for ps3 games, nothing else.
#10
Meant to say that although PS3 games are region free, the PS2 games aren't so a NTSC console can only play NTSC games from its region. However it doesn't sound like that's an important aspect for you.

Well I got quite a good price on it and I bought it at launch but I got it from a 'contact'. ;-)
#12
i dont understand the obsession with backwards compatabilty who would you want to play old gen games when you can play next gen games? and who actully used the memorty card readers? ans two usb ports are more than enough.
#13
I had a Jap original 20GB (with full emotion engine, no wireless, 4 x usb) shipped over before uk release.
Cost me less than £300, shipped. Bunged in a 100Gb laptop drive. Brilliant. Been using it to play cheep Blu-rays from amazon us. (got 1st 4 harry potters for less than £20!!)
Used a company called Superufo. I know a few people who have used them, no problems so far. Can't check atm (in work !) but link should be www.superufo.com

This is true, mine is set to R3 for DVD and Japanese for PS2, it does play Code A Blu Ray though.

I don't know where everyone keeps getting this from SCEE said they're not bringing it out in europe, and if they do it wont be for a long while.

The 40GB PS3 has 2 front USB ports, the 80GB has 4 front USB ports.

Wrong on all counts!

1. People have huge ps2 collections. Graphics are not the only thing that makes a great game. Imagine having a complete singstar collection on ps2 which you have to now replace on a ps3 40gb.

2. I use the memory card reader all the time and its very naive of you to assume they are redundant.

3. I have 3 usb slots filled permanently so the 4 are useful. (keyboard/mouse transmitter, 4gb usb stick, sisxaxis charger). I dont want to have to keep chopping and changing them around.

Also, I have already used 50GB with demos etc so I'd have to delete stuff I want to keep on a 40gb model.

what are the cons of a jap and HK version?

i guess its down to personal preference, and what you use your ps3 for.

PS3 Japanese Version:

1) Japanese Hand made
2) Plays all PS3 Regions
3) Plays only PSone/Ps2 J-version [Due to region restriction]
4) O to select and X to go back
5) Censorship on games

PS3 US/Canadian Versions:

1) Chinese Hand made
2) Plays all PS3 Regions
3) Plays only PSone/Ps2 US-version [Due to region restriction]
4) X to select and /\ to go back
#26
thanks man
#27
The Chinese ones don't have censorship on them, they are basically halfway between a US and Jap console, the BD code is A but the PS2 region is Japanese and it is circle for select instead of X.

whys that a joke -- 360 is the best console out - 3 years since launch and look at its catalogue - simply unbeatable
#29
how can you call something that weighs a ton, sounds like someone snoring, has a power thing the size of my foot and some of them break with 'the red rings of death' the best console?

You can't say which is the best until you've owned both.

You've only owned the 360 and thats all you ever will.
#36
You may be interested to read this considering you're buying a PS3 to play GTA IV on.

Basically, it's been in development for the 360 primarily. Also, all the screenshots and videos that have been released to date have come from the 360 build. Although the PS3 is clearly technically superior, there's a very good chance that it'll have (another) inferior port.

And on a more practical note, I much prefer the 360 controller to the PS3 controller.
#37
im not havin a go and ive just read that link, cheers

but what would be the difference on the 360?

graphics quality are the same on each console arent they?

least ud be able to play it on the ps3 in peace.....
#38
360 has exclusive content. only because microsoft bought their way in.
