HELP adive wanted on ebay refund..

i sold a sat nav in working order, sent it out, the buyer emailed to say it wont turn on... she sent it straight back to me asking for a refund plus the postage, ive checked it and it doesnt work now, i wouldnt have sold it faulty... so out of pocket by £55 feel gutted should i refund ....:?

In my eyes yes - but it depends what you put on the listing with regards to postage refunds.

maybe damaged in transit. did u send it recorded or special?

yeah i sent it recorded delivery, i didnt say anything in the ad about refunds, i know i should really refund but it hurts...lol

if its an honest thing thats happened where the postal service have shaken it to bits then it would be fair to return the cost of the item and hope that he would waver the cost of the postage , you then still have either the ability to ask for comp off the postal service ( 28 quid ) and to be eble to sell it again on ebay but this time as faulty , so all isnt lost

always put the majic words , i cant promise this will be recieved in perfect working order due to the nature of the postal service , additional insurance is offered at cost and recommended

agreed - its a bit like those sellers who say they are not responsible for items lost in the post....

Yes, you need to refund as the item was effectively not as described. Unfortunately you can only claim back upto £34 using Recorded Delivery so you are going to be out of pocket a bit.

Well i have sent her a full refund plus the postage, ill see now if i could possibly get something from royal mail....

this is very true but as a seller its impossible to trace the item through the postal service to make sure its treated with the respect you would hope all items sent would be , the previous isnt a get out of jail free card or a removal of responsibilities just some simple padding to ease your time on ebay if things go wrong , an example is this , a parcel is sent , it gets broken , the BUYER has to seek compensation not the seller through the usual channels , first question on the form states where was it posted !!!!! , the buyer cant fill the form in so therefore cant claim hence push that additional insurance is payed for by the buyer to secure the items speedy arrivel or better insurance should things go wrong , im not advocateing that the duty of care is wavered

No the SELLER seeks compensation not the buyer. The buyer has no contract with the delivery service.
