Help & advice need about buying a digital camera

7y, 8m agoPosted 7 years, 8 months ago
Budget is around £100.

Seen some amazing deals on ebay (sony cybershot 8.1MP brand new for £81 delivered) but just wanted to know what should i be looking for.

Originally i had a 3.2MP, then moved on to a 6.1MP and didnt notice any difference in picture quality. So is there more to it than just MP's?

I also go to Florida next month so need one with a camcorder with sound if possible, With the rubbish exchange rate i think I might as well buy one before i go.

Any help and advice appreciated.

If you want to print a poster size photo then MP are very important. If you are looking to go max say A3 then i guess anything around the 5MP mark is fine.
Also if you get a high MP camera and reduce the image size on your computer then you may find a loss in picture quality.
More imprtant are the actual features of the camera i.e. ISO, Face detection, Optical Zoom different shoot modes etc.
MP are neither here or there if going A4 size
I have one of these : Canon Powershot A470 Digital Camera 7MP silver 3.4x optical zoom 2.5" LCD
I got it at Argos item no 559/1349 price £49.98 it was half price. Then all you need to get is the memory card.

* 3.4 x optical zoom.
* 4 x digital zoom.
* 2.5in LCD screen.
* High ISO auto digital anti-blur solution.
* Face detection - 9 faces.
* Continuous shooting - 1.9fps.
* Red eye reduction.

* Maximum ISO range 1600.
* 15 scene modes.
* Pictbridge compatible.
* Accessories included in box - wrist strap, 32Mb memory card, AV cable, Interface cable, User manual kit.
* 2 x AA batteries supplied.
* Weight 165g.

FYI depending on what size you will Print UP TO use this tool to convert the dimensions (height & width) then multiply the two Pixel size results to get a MP value needed for that size image. CLICK HERE
i.e. for A4 size 300mm x 210mm = 1133.85pixels x 793.70pixels = 899936.74 pixels OR 0.9MP (which is less than 1MP!)
so like i said go for features especially ISO and Optical Zoom
If you print your own photos then having a good photo printer will make a difference too.
When I was buying mine, I found this site helpfull because it gives reviews on loads of them, covering pretty much everything on the cameras.
