Hi,

I recently got my BT phonebill in and it shows numerous calls to various premium rate no's which are all very similar. I called BT to see if they could tell me who it is but they could only say it's a television voting line? I have tried calling the numbers but it sounds like a fax line. Is there anyway I could trace the number myself?

Thanks in advance

Bit more info needed, not that i'm nosy, but who else lives with you? Are you sure you didn't go mad voting for strictly come dancing?

There is me my wife and our 2 sons but I asked BT what time the calls were made and they vary between mid-morning and 11pm. I think I am being scammed

Just as I thought some sort of scam, I have asked BT to put a premium rate bar on my line hopefully this will be the end of it!

Now if you don't mind I need to go and try and get my money back from BT!:-D

Broadband can't be hijacked in the same was as the dial up modems could be.
Why do you think you've been scammed? If someone was gaining access to your telephone line they'd make more calls than that. You'll end up paying it, BT don't usually back down on this sort of stuff

It was 12.69 + vat

I dont normally pay much attention to the itemised bill but it was listed as 30 calls:w00t:

I just rang that people the number is registered to, they run an online gaming site which he says you can't phone.

Could it be a virus of sorts or maybe someone hacking my phoneline with their comp?

After reading again,.. u sure its not your kids ringing competitions in the summer when you were out?

It's not a competion line I tried calling a few of the numbers myself and they are all data lines, it sounds like a fax machine when you call.

Have you or your kids bought interactive games through Sky? Sky gamestar or whatever its called? It's 99.99% ceartain that the calls are legit. It's very very unlikely that your phone line has been "hacked" to make these calls. Your PC (unless connected via dial up modem/phoneline) and not broadband can not make phone calls of this nature.

But would things like the interactive games not sound like that as they'd be connecting to play the game/ download game data etc ? Which digital provider do you actually have ? :?

I have sky, having spoken to the provider of the phoneline they tell me I have no account with them, they have no record of my name or address and if you connect through their system it wouldn't show up on a phonebill like a phonecall

Definitely unplug your Sky telephone connection anyway until you can get to the bottom of it. This won't affect your system (at least it never has on mine) & if you want to watch a pay to view movie just plug it back in for 2 mins until it's authorised. That should stop any unauthorised outgoing call charges in the meantime. Plus the BT Premium block should stop it actually connecting. Good luck getting it sorted out with BT & hope you can find out why you're getting charged ;-)

Sorry I meant I spoke to the provider of the premium rate phoneline, if that makes more sense.

i complained to sky and they refunded the charges as i persuaded them that i wasnt aware of such liability to these charges
