Help! Cant cancel Dell order :(

Well to cut a short story shorter, I ordered a laptop from dell. Lovely specs, fantastic processor(p8600), 4gb 800mhz ram, 500gb hard drive, blu-ray, backlit keyboard, 1920x1200 screen, etc etc for the paltry sum of £650.

However I have gotten cold feet in regards the deal for the following reasons:

Some say that the HDMI cannot carry audio

the graphics card is the ATI 3450 256mb. It seems just on the wrong side of to weak and I dont think you can upgrade laptop graphics cards? I only wish to play BF2 and CS-S but I dont think it will cut the mustard especially at any sort of resolution.

The battery life seems to be very low. Now im not going on extended trips, but if it dosent last me 1.5-2hrs then its no good for watching a film when in the car. Ive had a look for batteries for it but cant find any :(

So, I thought, lets just email Dell and cancel my order. The person refused to do it, saying it was "locked" and that the only thing I can do is wait for it to be delivered then return it.

Is there ANY way round this? Many thanks

Don't take no for an answer.

Tis hard to do anything when they just say "no" :(

I just cant get over it. Surely its better for them to cancel whilst its still being built?

Refuse delivery. Internet purchasing laws allow the buyer to cancel within 14 days so you are well within your rights to do so.

Worst case scenario is you return it after receiving it. Good thing is, they might try and persuade you to keep it by offering you some cash back! Win!

Thanks for this post. It would be an option usually but ive not been on the ball in regards this.

Two reasons why I cant do the sensible thing (your suggestion)

1-I need the cash pronto. I cant really wait for the palava of it going back to poland or whereever.
2- I sorta.....manipulated the address so that they will deliver to ireland instead of england.:oops: Now before im heartily condemned, if I was to purchase the laptop in Ireland (im working there for a few months) it would have given me no change from a 1,000e.

u'd be waiting a month anywayz for the laptop for them to build it and ship it
#7
Call them instead of emailing.
Be persistent, cite distance selling laws and escalate to a manager if need be.
#8
Any time I've been in that situation I've had to wait for the item to be delivered then refuse delivery, they're not that fast on refunds either.

supposed to be the thing that if you refuse it they have to sell it as refurb so they offer you a discount to buy what you already 'bought' for less?

anyway distance selling thing if dont want, may have to pay for delivery still perhaps though.
#10
It would be tempting if they actually offered even a tiny bit of a discount. Quidco didnt track for some reason and whilst ive put a request in, its only tracking at 4% now which only takes £30 odd quid of (making the total price £667 instead of £650).

Meh, im confused.

Also the date of the delivery is a ****ing cheek. I ordered on the 31st march and the estimated delivery date is the 17th april >_>

The delivery date is intentionally pessimsitic, usually they beat it but sometimes they only match it but they've never been past it for me.

Not sure why any sort of discount would be tempting given you've said the machine can't do what you want it for - the laptop graphics card probably can't be upgraded as it's very rare cases that you can, if you could the cost would most likely be pretty high.

Chillax, when the vostro 1000 came out some of us waited two months easily.

You knew when you bought it you'd have to wait because they're made to order - It's why I bought from ebuyer instead of dell earlier this week, i'm on my new laptop right now - AMD Turion x2 2.1Ghz 4GB Ram 320GB HDD - Intergrated gfx

Can handle COD4 and COD5 and BF2.

£399.

Damn could you link me to it. What integrated graphics card do you have? From what you say it will thrash a ATi Radeon 3450 256Mb.

cheers

As sassie says.

I haven't tried BF2 and COD4 but i've tried COD5.
(Someone in the reviews say it handles perfectly fine)
If you don't like it remember you have 7 days to return it

Sassie be right :p

Yeah. I was gonna buy a dell, but I needed a laptop pretty quickly and didn't want to wait the delivery time.

It's quite well built and is more than up to the job for what I want it for , so yeah, i'm really pleased with it.

Damn. Tis very annoying. Im going to try and ring dell and plead away my case. Problem is that to call dell from my telephone costs a small fortune a minute. Heres to getting through quickly..

So what tactics should I employ for the following agendas

1: Getting the order cancelled before its sent out
2: Getting a discount on the current laptop.

i doubt very much they will cancel before its been delivered, wait for delivery and phone up for it to be collected, they will push you to keep it and know there allowed to give 10% off no questions asked

P.s should mention that if this 3450 256mb dedicated card played Counter Strike Source without lag and if it played BF2 even at low quality then I would keep this laptop if the battery life was 1.5hrs when used.
