Help connecting Xbox to PC, thanks

Hi. My son has a decent hd lcd pc monitor and wants to connect his xbox. When he has the xbox connected with the ethernet cable we get messages about a windows extender on the network (or something like that), and so we want to know where we will find the cheapest piece of equipment we need to connect the xbox to the pc. Have seen a similar post about this but it's a bit too advanced and doesn't really answer the question I have. Thanks, Liz

Let me get this straight he wants to play his Xbox (360???) on his LCD Pc monitor? You'll need to look on the back of the monitor and see what ports it has, take a picture and post it up or give us the model number.

when plugging in the Ethernet you are turning the Xbox 360 into an extender to play music/videos and pictures on your TV through the 360.

Bit too much info?!! I have also checked the back of it and the ports are: - the usual blue one that connects the monitor, the green audio lead, and a white lead that I think he has connected to his graphics card as well. Hope this helps. Thx, Liz

70% sure you need one of these

If someone can confirm. You'll need a 360 with a HDMI socket though which all the latest ones do.

If you don't have HDMI socket on your 360 you'll need one of these

This is the HDMI socket on the 360, it's the small bottom one below the big fat socket

As a note though he will complain that circles aren't circles, 16:10 isn't supported by the 360 only 16:9

Just a normal HDMI cable then? Thought it was gonna be something completely different. He has one of the new XBOX 360 60gb consoles (as those who were following my moral dilemma post on Friday night will know!!) so it has the socket you mentioned. As daft as this may sound, is it the white or blue port that the large end of the HDMI cable fits into? I would say the white so as to by-pass the graphics card but I'm a guessin'. Thanks again. Thought this was gonna be an expensive extra but I think I can stretch to a few quid, credit crunch and all!! Ta chaps!

you dont actually plug the 360 into the computer, rather directly into the monitor, which should have some form of 'source' selection button/option.

Yeh, but ... which of the two cables is removed from the monitor - the blue one that is the more usual to see or the white one which is connected at the other end to the back of the pc via the graphics card? So is it the white or blue? Thx

ya should only have one wire from the screen to ya pc...
so remove (prob the white one, thts likely to be dvi) and remove from screen,
then plug the correct wire (u may be able to convert ur existing wire? iv got a ps3 myself, so not entirely sure, just trying to help (were not all horrid fanboys)) between the 360 n the screen....
hopefully thts right..

edit
dont forget ull speakers etc for the 360 as it wont play fru the screen like on a tv
