I have the Medion Akoya Mini and purcheased a new drive for it (320gb from novatech). Can anyone help with direction to software that is good a copying the contents of current drive to new one. I have a sata connection from the internals of my Westend Digital Passport. I can connect that to USB. Its the software (free if possible) and confirmation that i can achieve my aim by using the usb port.

Acronis is pretty exellent, and has a free trial. A totally free program is clonezilla, it's a bit scary but actually quite easy to use too.

norton ghost 8 is freeware and should be able to do that but it needs to be done via DOS.

I am using windows 7 and am currently backing up my hard drive including making an image of it. If i then install windows 7 on to new drive and restore image onto new drive will this work?

if your using linux its easy and free to do just using one very simple command:

dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb

where sda is your existing hdd & sdb is the new one, just connect it via a usb caddy or craddle. I did the same to my aspire one.

if ur not running linux download tinycore linux (its only 10mb) and boot from a flash disk and do commands above. Do fdisk -l first to check which drive is which!

nb. it'll take a while so leave it running over night!
