Hi all,

My friend is struggling to get a placement in social care in Manchester. Her uni can't find one or is too lazy to look and have now told her to get one herself! She'll end up wasting a year if she doesn't get one soon! Can anyone help out there, i know it's a long shot.

Is there any good sites for stuff like this?

Rep for all good replies and advice

+1. doing this herself will get her more respect, and she needs to be in the uni daily fighting for this. soon it will be exam./marking time and she wont get anywhere.

If it were me i'd be running around like a headless chicken until I found somewhere.

Is it a social work placement she/he needs? if so she will require a specific placement based on what her/his learning needs are. it will need to be with an accredited organisation which has the appropriately qualified staff to take on the role of link supervisor or practise teacher and to liase with the university. It would be unusual for the student to organise a placement for themselves. the student would need to get a list of all accredited organisations. Sorry I dont know who you would approach in england I am asuming the university would know and would have a contact source for all charitable and voluntary orgs who are accredited. This would give a starting point for identifying an appropriate placement based on learning needs which need to be covered during placement and for negotiating a placement. Hope this is of some help :)
