Hi any help would be greatly appriciated

We have been given a laptop and are looking to be able to connect it to the internet.

We currently have virgin home broadband set up via wired cables, we did get a wireless router when we joined but never used it, any ideas how we can use the virgin broadband with our laptop any where in the house, is it as easy as setting up the wireless router, or will i need a seperate dongle ??

May thanks Vikki

does ur laptop have wireless capability ? if so its easy to connect, powerup ur wireless router, look on ur laptop for where it says available wireless networks this is normally on the bottom right corner near clock one one of the icons , it should come up as virgin broadband or something like that, click connect , and if it asks ur for username and password, type in ur details that u use to connect to virgin , wait a few secs n it should connect ok

thanks !! :-D

Yes it has the capability when we switch on it says 'wireless network connection is not connected, wireless network unavailable'

didnt realise it was that easy to do - so if we dig the wireless router out, does it simply plug into the pc??

sorry for being so dumb!

u first have to set up ure wireless router (which shouldn't be too hard), then once thats set up just do what u did with ure laptop to search for ure router.. select ure router and type in the password (if u set one up, recommend u do when u set up ure router).

it can seem complicated but honestly, give it a try and follow the instructions :) good luck

btw routers aren't hard to set up, just look in the manual as they all differ but it is pretty much plug in, press a few buttons and off u go

look on the keyboard for a button marked with an ariel symbol (its norm on one of the F keys on the top row) if there is look on the bottom left of you keyboard for a button marked FN it is a blue key .....push and hold that key and at the same time push the f key on the top row that has the ariel symbol on it..that will turn on your wi-fi..then do a scan to find any wireless networks you can connect to

cant see an ariel button on there, but have figured it out manually how to search, so will set up the wireless router and give it a go, thanks rep left

Dig out the router along with the disc that came with it, put the disc in the desktop pc and work your way through step by step, will tell you what to plug where into the router/modem and how to get connected on the laptop.

Took us literally 5 mins to get it going.
