help - ipod won't turn on

hia,

We went camping at the weekend and my ipod 30gig classic was left in the car with some wet cardboard - I think what happened was that as the sun came up the next morning it created a lot of moisture in the car & my ipod hasn't turned on since :(

There was condensation on the inside of the screen which has all gone now as it's dreid out I guess.

Any ideas on the best thing to do to try and fix it, I've seen a plastic tool to take it apart on youtube but will need parts - is it likely to be the battery?

Thanks for any help!

Hiya,

As long as it wasn't submerged in any water I imagine it would be fine. I would just put it somewhere warm but not near a direct heat source. After a day I would leave it on charge for at least six hours. It should be sorted and probably needs a full charge.

Hope this helps.

I didn't realise the batteries were so cheap!

Does anyone know if this is the sort of thing I'm looking for ebay No. 150287297018 If it is for that price I may as well give it a try!

edit - just read your post - thanks. It's been off for a couple of days now & I have it charging, well plugged in anyway since 8 this morning - I'll leave it on charge while I'm at work & see if it springs into life - fingers crossed....

I would make sure its fully dried out, put it in the airing cupboard.

You may find there are pockets of moisture which might start to corrode parts at a later date.

oooooh it's doing something, it now says please wait - very low battery on the screen with a battery symbol that has a no entry sign in it & a spinng swirly thing supposedly showing that it's doing something.

It's been doing that for half an hour now.

I guess that proves that the screen is still working and the main boad isn't totally fried.

Just having a look around the internet now to see what that screen actually means - please post if anyone happens to have had this before.

Cheers,

Got my i-Pod battery from them. It was for a 30GB i-Pod Video. Takes about 2 days to arrive, instructions included although you'll need a magnifying glass to read them.

Before you change the battery make sure you try doing a hard reset, check the apple website on how to do this based on the model you have.

Back to my previous post, before plugging stuff in, make sure its fully dry if its wet and shorting the battery whilst operating it it will give you a dodgy battery reading.

File it in the airing cupboard for a day or 2!

thanks for all your advice guys, I don't have an airing cupboard as we have a combi boiler but I'm sure I'll find somewhere to keep it toasty. It'll go in the oven in a few days if it doesn't start working!

From what I've been reading on apple's forums it seems to be quite a common problem with most Ipod's, mine is the 30gb video.

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4546046&

It won't charge because it doesn't charge until it's booted but it won't boot because it doesn't have the energy to boot - how shoddy it that! The problem may well be all down to the fact that the battery ran out and not the damp in the car.

If the repeated reset trick doesn't work I'll order one of those battery packs from ebay.

Thanks - I'm a lot more hopeful than I was this morning.
